Lily Chin's Mosaic Magic Afghans Made Easy

This is a wonderful book for anyone who crochets and wants to do something different. The patterns are great, although if you can crochet as I have done for years, you can make up your own designs, turn the patterns around to cover other items and is so useful for Xmas gifts, or other special gifts for special people. I thought it would be complicated, but it is very easy, and Lily Chin describes everything so well. She has amazing projects and maybe a little time consuming but well worth it in the end. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves to crochet and wants a challenge and come up with something original and very pleasing to the eye. I would rate it 10 out of 10

I chose this book because mosaic crochet is a technique new to me. The book has clear instructions, a variety of patterns, and the bonus of the stitch counts for each so I can design my own projects in mosaic crochet. All this in one book! If you enjoy learning new stitches and techniques, I highly recommend Ms. Chin's book.

I love the patterns in this book. Definitely doesn"t look like my Grandma's old fashioned patterns. New and modern and beautiful for an old fashion kind of hobby. It gave me completely renewed interest and I would love to try every pattern in this book. If she had a series of these books, I would buy them. I wouldn"t even care how much they cost!

Good pattern book. Grandma likes several of them and has created great gifts for the family. Easy enough to follow the directions.

I originally purchased Lily Chin's DVD Mosaic Crochet, and fell in love with this method of crochet! The DVD is a perfect teaching tool, but I also needed a little more help in recreating some of the projects she showed in the DVD, so I purchased the book Mosaic Magic, which has all of the projects shown in the DVD. The DVD and the book go hand-in-hand! Lily is entertaining and packs a lot of information into a small space.

Lily Chin's Mosaic Magic (Leisure Arts #4229) Disappointing that although the book has detailed diagrams and description of basic crochet stitches, it does not include diagrams of the specialised techniques for using these stitches to create the mosaic articles. This was my reason for purchasing the book, hence I am left feeling cheated.

Lily Chin writes easy to understand instructions and fabulous, creative, modern designs. It's a huge creative step up from the patterns one normally sees on the various yarn manufacturers' websites.

This is a wonderful book full of beautiful patterns and a new crochet technique. The instructions are easy to follow and the results are even prettier then the pictures. It's a technique I now use whenever I want to introduce more color into my crochet designs. Lily Chin is a fine teacher and her books are all wonderful. 5 stars for sure.

Ich kann mich meiner Vorrednerin nicht anschließen. Ich finde, es sind gelungene Fotos, die Lust aufs Nacharbeiten machen. Lediglich die Fotoauschnitte sind stellenweise etwas unscharf (Tiefenschärfe). Natürlich ist mit dickem Garn gearbeitet worden, denn es sind ja auch Decken. Wem das nicht gefällt, der kann ja ein dünneres Garn wählen (dann ist man eben nicht so schnell fertig). Auch bestehen die wenigsten Modelle aus reinem Acrylgarn (ist evtl. pflegeleichter?), sondern wurden aus reiner Wolle, einem Wollgemisch oder Baumwolle gehäkelt. Auch hier steht es einem frei, ein anderes Garn zu nehmen. Ich werde die Modelle sicherlich auch nicht 1 : 1 nacharbeiten, aber für mich sind in diesem Buch sehr schöne Anregungen enthalten.

This book arrived yesterday and after having a good look through it last night I am very happy with it. There are pages and pages of lovely throws and blankets all quite unusual.Don't be put off by the cover which is quite dull and old fashioned - the book is full of projects worth making.I especially like the lovely baby blanket which I will definately make.

Abgesehen von den sehr gelungenen harmonischen Farbzusammenstellungen der Afghans betrachte ich das Buch als Fehlkauf für mich. Die beschriebene neue Mosaiktechnik ist nicht schwierig. Wenn ich es richtig verstehe, wird meistens abwechselnd eine Reihe feste Maschen und eine Reihe tiefer eingestochene Stäbchen gehäkelt. Ausprobiert habe ich es nicht, da ich die Ergebnisse auf den - nicht sehr deutlichen - Fotos reizlos finde: Grobe Muster mit viel zu langen freiliegenden Fäden. "Fadenzieher" durch Schmuck oder durch Knöpfe an der Kleidung sind vorprogrammiert beim Gebrauch dieser Decken. Dazu kommt noch, dass alle Modelle aus scheusslichen Acryl- und Effektgarnen gearbeitet werden. Außerdem gibt es - wie bei den meisten angelsächsischen Häkelanleitungen - keine Häkelschrift, was mich immer stört. Ich behalte das Buch wegen der inspirierenden Farbkombinationen, habe es aber leider zu impulsiv bestellt. Denn die unattraktiven Muster der Mosaiktechnik, die ich kritisiere, sind bereits beim Blick ins Buch zu erkennen. ...und noch ein Tipp: Wer sich für meine Meinung über z.T. außergewöhnliche, wenig bekannte Häkelbücher interessiert, kann meine anderen Rezensionen lesen.
