Terminator, The (4K UHD)

This movie is great. It has action, science fiction, love and horror elements. As for the 4k version. It looks insanely good! I see a lot of other people complaining and crying there's no film grain. Ignore that non sense. It is worth the buy. The picture is extremely detailed. And the remastered dolby atmos mix sounds amazing!

Terminator 1 is a classic!!! it's one of those films that people NEED to watch before they die. not only is this film a classic, it's prophetic. just look at modern AI systems popping up everywhere, look at all the robots that look human being built around the world today and you will wonder when the militaries of the world will create a T-800. it's not far fetch that an actual T-800 will be built for war in the near future. i have a belief that major military powers around the world ALREADY have Terminators in secret bunkers. im not joking and it makes me wonder if James Cameron actually saw the future. i have bought Terminator through out the years on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray, and now 4k and if they release this film again on Holodisc i'll buy that too lol. this 4k release includes original soundtrack but personally i don't mind the remastered sound but if you are a die hard purist then this 4k have that original sound included. again, i have so much love for this film. it's so special and it still holds up today. even modern films can't compare. it's an amazing film. personally i like Terminator 1 more than Terminator 2 bc original Terminator is a horror film and is way more brutal than action oriented Terminator 2. that police station massacre still sends chills down my spine everytime i watch it. those cops were slaughtered, they stood no chance! even today, watching that scene still makes my jaw drop. it was brutal! modern Hollywood will never make a scene like that today bc of political correctness, but the Terminator gave no fudge and that is what makes this film so special. only complaint i have is that release feels "bare bones." no special features, no extras like a poster or some sort of physical goodies. besides that, i feel they did a great job w/this 4k release. 2027 is around the corner ;) Terminator fans will know what im referring to. maybe in 2027, they can do something to celebrate :) yes, buy this 4k version or you will be TERMINATED!!!

picture is perfect way better than standrad blu-ray as i can tell by my sony oled tv!

This is now the definitive version of Terminator it is just the almost near perfect release of Dolbyvision & Atmos, yes it includes the original soundtrack for the first time but to me it sounded anemic compared to the Atmos but I understand some of the sound effects have been changed with the 5.1 track and I didn't care for the sound of the weapons such as Schwarzenegger's long-slide 45 cal. it just sounded weird but other than that the Atmos track was more immersive and powerful. Now for what is just a thing of beauty the video is awesome for the first time the blacks are deep and inky which causes the Dolbyvision to explode with visual colors unlike any version you have seen before, this cannot be understated the visuals in this release are amazing, clarity is still there as is a fine grain layer, not as chunky as in past releases and you will be shocked when Arnold walks up to 3 men to steal their clothing they might have to elevate this to an X-rating I don't think they ever intended to show that much of Arnold but with this new AI technology used to correct film flaws it's really brought out the detail in this film. The fatal flaw in this release is the extra's or the lack of extra's what you get was on the DVD and nothing new has been offered but don't let that sway your decision this 4k is superior to what was projected on the big screen so grab this while there are still slipcovers you won't regret it!

The 1984 sci-fi/action classic "The Terminator" is one of the greatest and most influential films of all time. It's one of my top ten favorite films ever made and seems to only get better with age. So with that being said, the main purpose of my review is to talk about the new remastered blu-ray that was released on February 19th, 2013 and how it compares to the original blu-ray release from 2006. To be quick and to the point, this new blu-ray release blows the old disc out of the water. (This appears to be the same transfer that has been out for a little wile in Europe). Detail is greatly improved in addition to far superior contrast and black levels which is very important due to how much of the movie takes place at night. It was apparent with the 2006 blu-ray that the old ancient HD master used for the special edition DVD was dumped onto blu-ray which is what a ton of companies were doing at the beginning of the blu-ray era. There is a nice layer of film grain present that gives everything a nice feel with no evidence of digital noise reduction being applied. The old blu-ray barely looked better than an upconverted DVD and this new blu-ray FINALLY presents the film in the best quality that it's ever been for the home market. It's also on a dual layer disc this time with a very high bit rate in the mid to upper 30's throughout. There has been some grumbling on the internet of some fans questioning the transfer's more teal/bluish color scheme in comparison to past releases. Anybody who is fan of writer & director James Cameron knows that he really likes bathing his nighttime scenes in blue hues. I did a direct comparison with the old blu-ray and the new one appears much more natural in terms of skin tones and the overall color textures. The picture quality on then new blu-ray is just so beautiful and a massive improvement over the old disc, I really don't see how anybody who loves the film as much as I do would have any complaints. On the audio side, we get a lossless DTS surround mix that originally appeared on the old special edition DVD. This particular mix has been a point of contention with a lot of fans over the years. This is due to that the original audio for the film was in mono and for the surround remix, certain sound effects like gunshots were replaced. The old DVD featured both the original mono track and the 5.1 remix. The first blu-ray onl contained the surround remix. For this new blu-ray, I've always felt that the original audio track should be presented if a remix was done. With that being said, I don't mind the new gun shot sounds in the surround remix but would like to have had the mono track in lossless audio too. Extras are the same as the first blu-ray in which we get a 13 minute featurette on the visual effects & music, a fun 20 minute sit down conversation with James Cameron & Arnold Schwarzenegger reminiscing about the film and some deleted scenes. Still missing in action from the special edition DVD are the optional James Cameron commentary on the deleted scenes explaining why they were cut out as welll as the remained of the hour long making of doumentary that the visual effects piece was pulled from. Since this new blu-ray is on a dual layered 50 gigabyte disc, it's not an issue of space since those extras are all in standard definition to begin with. No trailers for the film are present either which is disappointing from a completist point of view. So, sadly we still have yet to get the true definitive blu-ray of The Terminator with those mentioned extras not being included along with the original mono audio track. But all fans owe it to themselves to get this new blu-ray due to the massive upgrade in picture quality. Do like I did hold onto your old special edition flipper DVD to have all of the extras and make your own 2 disc set. The movie looks gorgeous now compared to the old ancient blu-ray and this appears to be the best that we're going to get!

Its great. I have to agree with the rest of the reviews but just fyi mine did not come with a digital copy, just the disc. So if that is something y’all care about i would proceed with caution. Other than that, came in mint condition! Nice!

The 4K remaster of The Terminator is spectacular. I had begun to wonder if it would ever be released and was surprised to see it appear on Amazon. This classic sci-fi thriller has never looked better, and the remaster brings a level of clarity and depth that truly does justice to James Cameron's vision. The dark, gritty atmosphere of the film is especially striking in this release. Night scenes, which are notoriously challenging due to high ISO and film grain, are handled beautifully- retaining their moody aesthetic while showcasing remarkable detail and balance. What sets The Terminator apart for me, even compared to its iconic sequel, is its raw and relentless energy. The story, visuals, and Brad Fiedel’s haunting synth score come together perfectly in this first installment. While Terminator 2 is undoubtedly a masterpiece, I’ve always preferred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the menacing, unstoppable force of destruction rather than the reprogrammed protector. There are some special features taken from the archives about the VFX, filming the models, creating the music and the cultural impact of the movie. They are short clips. But that was okay for me because I feel like watching too much of that stuff can lower the ability to be immersed in the film. This 4K remaster is a must-own for fans of the film and for anyone who wants to experience one of the greatest sci-fi films in its ultimate form. Highly recommended!

Alguna vez tuve esta película en DVD y decidí comprarla en la versión más nueva que existe. La verdad se nota mucho que está adaptada a los estándares de imagen de hoy en día. Se ve muy bien. Lo único malo es que esta edición no viene con el bluray normal, sólo el 4K. No lo necesito, pero es bueno tener opciones siempre. La recomiendo.

The 4k video quality was superb and the Dolby Atmos was flawless , a must have to your Library

One of the classic movies from the 1980s finally makes it onto 4K and the transfer is really well done. Unlike Cameron's other transfers, mostly that of True Lies and T2, the AI scaling is not bad here. The film still retains some of its grain look and it looks and sounds awesome. Only complain is the lack of features. Some nice behind the scenes but nothing new.

This classic movie is a good science fiction movie. Picture and sound quality is a lot better than the DVD and the first Blu-ray edition. I highly recommend this movie.
