From DreamWorks Animation comes an adaptation of Peter Brown’s award-winning, #1 New York Times bestseller, The Wild Robot. The epic adventure stars Academy Award® winner† Lupita Nyong’o (Us, the Black Panther franchise) as Roz, a robot that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must adapt to the harsh surroundings. Gradually Roz starts building relationships with the animals on the island, including a clever fox voiced by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian), and becomes the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling named Brightbill. The Wild Robot is a powerful story about self-discovery, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature, and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things. Roz's new task.
New from Dreamworks animation. Based on books I've never heard of. I didn't see this trailered. I was only aware of it when I saw reviews pop up. All of which were glowing. So I thought might be worth a go.An intelligent helper robot is in a shipwreck. They're left on a remote island inhabited by nothing but animal. Said robot needs tasks. It's their purpose. They find one in the shape of a gosling goose who is the only survivor of their litter. The robot takes the name Roz and has to learn how to be a mother. As a result, a fox called Fink spies an opportunity....Reviews were right. This was superb. The themes are familiar but it handles them in a pleasing way anyhow. Lupita Nyong'o is superb in the lead as Roz has quite a character arc and she makes the most of it. I totally didn't recognise the voice actor doing Fink, so that was a surprise. They're great too. Getting some very fox like characteristics in. And some good character stuff also. There is a supporting cast of other creatures. It is pretty clever in that it does actually give a logical reason that makes sense on how all of them can talk. Some get more to do than others, but they do make an impression. In particular the possum family who are very good at doing one particular possum like thing. The animation has an interesting style. The backgrounds can be rather static at times. But it's incredibly colourful throughout. It also has a couple of set pieces that are amazingly beautiful. It does actually reach a natural end at one point. Then it goes on for a fair bit afterwards anyway. It's not one of those films that doesn't know how to end, though. The one it does reach unfolds naturally and it really works. The amount of jeopardy and emotion at certain points means it's might be a bit much for the very young. There are some death references. The amount of emotion might also hit a few adults. Ahem. But you will come away from it feeling uplifted. It's a great movie experience. Highly recommended. There is one non essential but fun post credits scene.Languages and subtitles on the dvd:languages: english french dutch flemish english french audio descriptionsubtitles: english dutch flemish french.Plus a good batch of extras:Alternative opening commercial for rozum. With intro from director. Four mins. Some unfinished animation. Interesting.Moments from the mike. Two and a half mins of the cast whilst recording. Having fun. You will too.Meet the cast. Seven mins of chats with the cast about their characters and the film. Good watch. The overprotective mother. Four mins of a deleted scene in storyboard form. With director intro. Interesting.Assembly required: animating the wild robot. Seven mins making of feature. Really good and detailed.Feeling alive. Seven mins about the journey from book to film. Good detail and interesting.Wild sounds. Five mins all about the score. Also good detail and interesting. How to draw. Four five min long features on how to draw some of the characters. Can be watched individually or all in a row. Educational.Fly your own Brightbill. Eleven mins on how to make a Brightbill kite. A project that requires effort but if you want to put it in this will do the job.Feature commentary from various production staff.

A heartfelt journey...
This film is absolutely amazing. Visuals are stunning, acting is top-notch and the soundtrack is so emotional. This film surpasses Transformers One as my favourite animated film ever. This will stand the test of time, it's near flawless.

Touching robot journey
This is a beautiful and touching animation of a robot who has been programmed to take on responsibility from a human completing tasks. But the robot finds itself on an island of wild animals. It is a sentimental journey of discovery and feelings for this robot and the wild animals, i was in tears because it touched my heart! I do not normally cry at animated films so was surprised by this. Although it is suitable for kids, it has more adult content. Lovely film.
