VITCAS 25Kg Refractory Castable Grade 1700 C – Castable Cement Refractory Concrete - Furnace Cement- Protective Refractory Concrete

I was initially very reluctant to buy it as one had to purchase 25kg, however it is incredibly dense and I needed far more of it than I had expected. This was for the lining of a small furnace for casting metals.It is an incredibly dry mix if made up as the manufacturer's specification. (2litres of water to 25kg of refractory) but actually it seems to be right. It needs really prolonged and vigorous tamping to get a good consolidated cast, but if you do it makes a really solid and durable layer.Manufacturer's website has good instructions for use.

this is a great refractory so far. But note that it is a dense refractory and heavy so its not a good as a insulating refractory. It also absorbs microwaves so if your application is a microwave furnace this is not a good choice. It sets fast and sets clean without any fuss. Baking to remove moisture can be done with a fair amount of confidence - it doesn't appear to crack easily.
