FriskCeramic Multi-Mixing Palette, Nylon/A, One Size

I bought this because I needed a new palette for using with gouache. I discovered my studio watercolour palette wasn't suitable as gouache seems to need deeper wells to allow for more vigorous mixing. This palette works excellently as it is roomy, solid and heavy enough to stay put whilst in use. The divisions are high-sided and deep enough to hold a lot of paint and I think it will also be useful as a watercolour palette. Being ceramic it doesn't bead up or stain (unlike plastic) and cleans up in a trice.Like all ceramics,this palette will doubtless chip or break if roughly handled, so I sponge it out in situ. It is also far too heavy to be transported easily, so is definitely more suitable for studio use. The rough, unglazed base might scuff a polished surface. ( I lay out my kit on non-slip rubber matting which prevents this and also helps keep stuff from hurling itself to the floor).The brush rests indented into the edge are extremely useful, especially those set slant-wise at the corners, which allow you to perch such items as pipettes, mixing brushes and palette knives across them where they are easily accessible but don't block access to the wells. (This is important for me with gouache, as accurately measuring out a couple of drops of water seems essential. The paint goes from too stiff to too runny so easily and using an old or cheap brush for mixing preserves the point on my good brushes.)This is an excellent large, deep,capacious palette that is well designed and easy to use and I am delighted with it. Recommended.

Not as big as some, measuring about 9 by 6.5 inches, but it’s an ideal size for my limited work area. Heavy and unglazed underneath, so does not slip around as I’m using it. The wells are just over 1cm deep at the centre so hold plenty of liquid (best thing thing about it) and they are also gently curved in the corners too so easy to get a damp tissue right into them and clean them thoroughly. The indentations around the top edge are incredibly useful for resting brushes. The glaze seems very hard-wearing, impervious and complete with no cracks, and so far there is no staining, although I’ve only been using watercolours. Seemed like a really good price to me when I bought it, as compared to other ceramic models. Very happy with this purchase.

This could just be the perfect palette for me. The size is good and I love the fact that it has several different wells which are deep enough for a sizeable amount of paint. What I also particularly like is the integrated brush rests all around the edges of the palette. When not in use the brushes can be placed right across the palette from edge to edge and smaller brushes can actually be placed on a rest on the edge and the shorter handle on one of the dividers between the sections of it. It can easily be rinsed off and the white ceramic shows the true colour of your mixes. It is a nice weight for on my desk and although the bottom is not glazed I actually put it on an old tea towel anyway so I can wipe the excess water from my brush. In the past I have paid more than half the amount this cost for one of the small flower shaped palettes so I am very pleased with it.

This is much better than plastic for mixing, the paint stays together rather than disappearing into droplets! It has a lovely feel and is quite heavy (and would break if you dropped it). The only thing I wish is that it was glazed underneath - when you hold it, as I sometimes do when painting, the underside feels dull and scratchy.

Compared to others, excellent value for money. Good size wells for paint. It's heavy, solid and sits flat on the table for watercolor painting. If you're a watercolour beginner , frustrated with the "beading" on plastic palettes, this will improve your experience a great deal.

I had been wanting a ceramic palette for ages, but the only ones I could find was the really large ones, and as lovely as they are I am not a full time painter and didn't want anything so big and heavy as it would sometimes need to be packed away. A larger one I think would be more for the everyday painter that kept everything as-is. This Palette has everything that the larger one has - only smaller, and it's perfect. It has indentations where you can rest your brushes, and 7 fairly deep mixing holes and one large mixing space in the middle. I'm thinking that when I am not using all of the holes, I can use one of them for my clean water, then sponge that out at the end of my session. it's really lovely. It's slightly smaller than A4 in size and quite weighty so won't move around. Some people are saying it's rough on the bottom and yes it is, but every piece of ceramic I own is rough on the bottom, so I always ensure it has something underneath it. I am also thinking you could glue some felt on the bottom, but I personally don't care too much because I have never put anything down on my table without a mat of some kind underneath it, so it really isn't a problem for me. On some photos I have seen it looks quite dark, but I can assure you it is pure white. I will try to add photographs later.

Wanted a ceramic palette but didn’t want paint wells as I use a separate metal paint box. This is ideal. You need to be careful where placing, as the underside is unglazed. I de-nibbed using fine sandpaper and just make sure when using it to place on a towel. Also comes with a good idea of having somewhere to place brushes not being used. Great product.
