Fun to build, not much fun to play.
The directions consist of pictures, no text. Two of the main parts colors are dark blue and black and there are a lot of identical parts in those two colors but not the same quantities. The pictures are dark and it is hard to distinguish the parts and in assemblies you need a bright light to see where multiple similar parts of one assembly are placed.A little glue...okay, a lot of glue is need in some areas to keep parts from just falling off or moving. You'll need very strong fingers to install some parts especially towards the end of the assembly.I found it helpful to make and assembly and then look at the next or subsequent pictures of assemblies to see how the part is installed. The game itself is rather disappointing because there is no scoring and the only mechanical motion are 3 objects spinning while the music plays and the lights flash in sequence. But the challenge of assembly was great. I'm 79 and enjoyed that part, it took me about 5 days, 4-6 hours a day.Very young kids might enjoy playing with it but it's sort of fragile even using glue to keep parts from separating. I wouldn't use super glue because I had to pry parts apart to fix things more than once

Awesome pinball machine
This is a great build. Both the value and the build itself. once assembled it is a great size. Probably best for kids 12 or older though some spots can be tricky.

Missing pieces
I was looking forward to giving this to my son for christmas. Wheni recieved this box, I noticed we were missing 6 base pieces and that the item was placed in a box that wasn't of its own. Disappointmented.

How to Drive Your Sibling (Nearly) Insane, Chapter One...
He's not a Pinball Wizard but my brother absolutely loves pinball in various forms, and he's always enjoyed model kits and lock blocks so ... clearly this was a perfect gift for him. At least in theory. To begin with, although it says "8+" is the target group, my brother and I agree that this is absolutely not a set for kids (there's a LOT of potential for *serious* frustration, not to mention a truly ridiculous number of small pieces that could easily be lost) though it could be a fun bonding activity for an adult and tween. I wouldn't recommend it for someone under 11 even as a shared activity though, largely because it simply isn't a *fast* build. This is really more for adults with assorted nostalgia and associated hobbies.Even for adults, it's not a "one afternoon" kind of build (let's be fair here: adults tend to have a LOT of other things taking up their time). My brother managed it over the course of a rainy free weekend, with some ...shall we say "colorful" language and a number of breaks (during which he told me numerous times that he both loved and hated it, depending on his frustration level at the time). The instruction booklet -- all 138 pages of it -- is hefty and for the most part not TOO difficult to follow along, but definitely requires bright lighting directly overhead to not make assorted annoying mistakes. It's a terrific concept, without doubt, and frankly it's amazing that it's functional (much more than we expected - including pinball sound effects and lights!), but it is decidedly challenging. He really enjoyed that it even comes with stickers though.

I'm really torn on this build
The concept of this set is awesome. The fact they got it to actually function in a manner that is a close approximation of a pinball machine is no small feat. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't work perfectly as a pinball machine, but for being building blocks, it's pretty darn close and the end product is really cool and fun.Getting it to the point that you can try to actually play it was a rather frustrating experience at a few points.Let's start at the beginning: the directions. The directions are sufficient 85% of the time. The times that they aren't are when it shows the same dark blue pieces with and without studs in them. My 9 year old was able to look at the instructions and figure it out relatively quickly, but my 45 year old eyes required using the flashlight on my phone to be able to figure it out. Thankfully, though, the black pieces are distinguished by having white outlines, so kudos on making those look distinctly different. Another frustrating thing with the directions is that it's easy to have things in the wrong spot/placed wrong because the diagram was just ambiguous enough that placement wasn't entirely clear, which ends up requiring rebuilds later.Another point of frustration is the base plate of the playing area. Sections are brought together at a point where two heavy flat areas are held together with one or two contact studs. This caused endless annoyance as it would fall apart easily as you try to build it out further. Some of that was from the connection points being relatively small between sections, but also because occasionally the pieces wouldn't fit together in a way that kept them together (I would use the phrase "they don't *stick* together well all the time). I finally got to the point where I just super glued the troublesome pieces together. That said, the vast majority of the build was enjoyable and challenging, it's just that for the cost the frustrating parts of the build keep it from being an outstanding experience.
