Best Botanicals Sarsaparilla Root Cut 16 oz.

I wanted to try to make some sparkling herbal tea that might be reminiscent of root beer. Based on the questions above, it was clear that their sources of root vary from time to time, but the most recent answer from 3 month before I placed my order said it was the real thing, Smilax medica from Mexico. I decided to try to different versions because it wasn't clear what I'd be getting (a previous answer said it was from India), and compared this to Frontier's Indian Sarsaparilla, clearly identified as being Hemidesmus indicus.I opened this one second, and it was almost odorless compared to the strong and pleasing scent of the Frontier.I decided to do a small taste test, infusing 1 gram of each root into a 2 oz boiling water for 5 minutes. This Best Botanicals 'maybe' true Sarsaparilla had very little flavor, just as it had very little scent; the Frontier Hemidesmus indicus tea tasted delicious and very reminiscent of root beer.I cannot recommend this product as I see no culinary use for what I received.
