I’ve owned the Boss ME series multi-effects (bass and guitar) since the 50 versions. Excellent value and a good way to learn/understand pedalboard builds. I particularly like the foot switches on this series: Sturdy and easy to press. If you’re looking to spend as little as possible, the the ME-50B will do. The ME-80 adds a USB port, but there’s no dedicated bass version of this model. The ME-90B adds XLR Out, now we’re talkin’. Run that to the FOH and the ¼" jacks to stage/monitor amps. Four AA batteries are included, but I recommend figuring in the cost of a power supply (PSA-120S). The best deal I’ve found for a non-OME version is the SmallSpark Adapter for Boss PSA-120S at ⅓ of the cost. You’ll also need a case (CB-ME80). If it’s not in the budget, then you can pull a starving musician move and duct tape the box for reinforcement. You’ll also need to download the latest software and six documents (Read Me and Setting Up hard copies included) at the Boss support site: Startup; Reference; Parameters; Tone Studio; EV-1 and FS-1 Connections. A card with a QR code is included that will take you to www.boss.info/start when scanned to connect with support. The ME-90B has extensive flexibility and then some. In fact, to keep the numerous variables manageable, I create 5 go-to patches: Default (everything off); Clean (little reverb); Rhythm/Bounce (little distortion); Lead (overdrive) and Acoustic Simulation (12-String Guitar/Stand-Up Bass). This typically covers 90+% of what needs to be done. Creating specialty patches is not an issue with the ME-90B because it’s so versatile. So getting lost in choices is an easy thing to do. Just remember you’ll never finish, you just stop. After I’ve got a patch all set to go, i.e. I decided to stop, I just name it the title of the song and store it in order of performance in a separate bank. All set and ready to go for the gig. Basically, the ME-90B is an affordable and versatile multi-effect unit that steps up-to-the plate for professional performance. Money well spent for musicians of every playing level.

I am blown away by how good the effects sound on this rig. It has everything I need for effects, and I love that it can function exactly like a custom-built effects board, or as an array of saved effect combos in its memory mode. I agree with all the other positive reviews and don't have much to add, but I did want to make two recommendations: one, the bluetooth add-on card is a must, at least for me. It allows one to control the effects and saved configs right from a mobile device, but it also allows for streaming music through the board, which is awesome for breaks during gigs. The smallest of the 4 sizes (20.5" x 11.8" x 5.9") fits this effects board as though it were made for it. I was going to purchase the one recommended in other reviews, but it looked bulky and larger than it needed to be for this board. The DJ case is just right, but still has enough padding to protect the board, and it has some handy pockets for AC adapters, cables, product manuals etc.
