A powerful drama about a woman's struggle for independence and emotional freedom in the face of family tradition. The story takes place in Haifa, 1979, during 3 days before the Shabbat. Vivian is trapped in a grinding routine of raising 3 kids, working from home and observing the strict Moroccan traditions of her family. She rages to break free, to live in the modern world and express herself, while her husband, Eliyahu, a well respected family man, constantly fights to keep her in line. Powerful, brilliant and breathtaking performance by Ronit Elkabetz. --Variety The audience gave Elkabetz's larger than life performance a standing ovation. --Le Monde Review: Tradition vs New Way of Life - It is hard to watch how this woman struggles with the family she is married to: her husband, her mother in law. They are different as " Water and Oil", as it was said in the "Gett", the last of the Trialogy. Interesting for anyone who wants to know more about religious marriage law in Israel in the 70th. Excellent performance by Ranit Elkabetz, who plays her mother's divorce struggles against their father.Deeply touching. She looks like a wounded animal, but not defeated. Review: Watch before GETT but just see it! - Can't believe I'm just now learning about this movie. Wish I saw before GETT, but I'm so glad I bought it. Truely a snapshot of a part of Israeli society, but also deals with universal issues of marriage and family.

Excellent. There are 3 movies in the series. After researching the trilogy, I decided to watch #1 and then skip to #3 which was the movie I was originally wanting to see. #1 gives you the breathless background that leads up to Gett.
