A Brilliant Product
The Origami case for Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is necessary for optimum enjoyment of this excellent tablet. If there is any problem at all with this case, it is that there is a bit of a learning curve necessary in order to take advantage of its best qualities. Once you figure it out, you should love it. Here are its best qualities - it is designed to optimize the sound from the unit's wonderful speakers and the magnetically secured folds in the cover provide an excellent stand for resting on a flat surface or holding by hand. When the kindle is not in the case, the sound is muddy and too soft. This is because the speakers point to the back of the device. When placed in the Origami case, there is a space at the top between the unit and the case that redirects the sound toward the user. This improves the sound greatly. Most importantly, and this has not been stated in any other reviews (and astonishingly not by the manufacturer) the best sound is obtained by turning the device upside down so that the camera is at bottom and then resting it on a hard flat surface. This will fully direct all of the sound toward the user by using the flat surface as a part of the audio system. The resulting audio quality then becomes quite possibly the best of all tablet devices. It is quite sensational. The folds in the cover that essentially become the stand are geometrically designed to hold the unit upright and firmly when the magnetic inserts are brought together. This works perfectly well on a flat surface. It also provides a comfortable way to hold the unit by the back with just one hand. The case is designed to allow the unit to slide upwards within the case in order to use the rear facing camera. This is a clever way to protect the camera when it's not being used, which is most of the time, as well as to turn the camera on and off. The trade off for this is that the unit is attached to the case magnetically rather than with a form fitted plastic shell. As a result, if you lift the case by the cover and vigorously shake it, it's possible to make the tablet fall out of the case. Some reviewers have had trouble with this, but for normal usage by an adult, this should not be a problem.Otherwise, the case is very high quality and looks great. If you plan to use your Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 for audio and video content consumption, then forget the cost, this is the case that will let you fully enjoy the device.

It is pricey
I have had two different full size iPads and an iPad Mini and decided to try a Kindle HDX 8.9 because of its reading features not available on other products. For my previous i-products I have purchased multiple cases and contraptions to hold them where and how I wanted them. Never has any case been as nice and met all of my needs like this one. I did and do not like the price of this case. It is about even with Apple brand leather iPad cases, but those are incredibly overpriced as well (and I do not like Apple smart covers, they are far inferior to this case). However, this case, at least, does a GREAT job. I did choose the leather and I am glad I did. It feels like a very nice quality leather, has not scuffed, smells good, and the Kindle fits it perfectly. The case also allows you to easily push the Kindle up to take photos, control power, and control volume. My sister bought one of the non-leather origami cases for her Kindle HDX 7, and while the case functions just the same and is a great color, I really prefer the leather - it just feels better, looks nice, and has a leather rather than chemical smell. The magnets in this case are great, holds very securely, and they turn the unit on and off. The case folds back flat, or holds the unit vertically or horizontally; and, if you like to read it bed, it does a great job of holding the Kindle up on your stomach or on a pillow. Again, while I agree this case is expensive, I do believe it is the only case I will need to buy for my Kindle.

An innovative Kindle case that takes a little practice.
Some reviewers have had difficulties manipulating the Origami Case. The first time I confronted this moderately thick, (in my case) black leather origami-style protective cover, I did a little head scratching myself for a few minutes. However, there are some helpful pictures that are prominently displayed inside the package which, if carefully followed, will have you up and running quite quickly. Make sure to follow in numerical order, starting with the top picture. Once the Kindle slips into the Origami case, fold the large flap up and over, then fold the two magnetic flaps as pictured and you're set. Once you get the hang of folding the magnetic flaps, you'll see how effective this design is. The magnetic flaps are sturdy and will not come undone in either portrait or landscape configuration. My Kindle remains upright constantly, a major convenience while reading or viewing images and films. This is something I've never before experienced so successfully with a tablet. As others have noted, the case does not wrap completely around the Kindle. However, the exposed part, the metallic bezel edge, seems more than able to withstand normal usage. This innovative design for the new Kindle cover also allows quick access to the camera, the volume control and the power button. The coolest aspect of the cover - which I discovered while watching some films - was that it reflects audio from the Dolby Digital speakers in the back, widening the sound stage into a nice surround sound effect. Audio is spacious and creates the illusion of multiple speakers. I think this cover is effective but it does take a little practice in order to get right.
