just what I wanted
I wanted to get a can opener just like the one my Mum used when I was a kid. I saw this one and after getting it in the mail, found it was virtually identical to the one I remembered. This is a no frills can opener that does the job(I tried it right away).

Relic From the Good Old Days!!!
I guess that most people might consider this opener to be a relic from the past, but I LOVE it. And it shows why those old-timers preferred this type of opener over the newer electric ones. It works perfectly.....ALL the time. Even when you have a power outage or are outdoors and away from an electrical outlet....this one works. It takes up no counter space in your kitchen, and it neatly fits into your utensil drawer. After buying and being frustrated with electric openers for years, and tossing out so many of those useless things, I am sticking with this old stand-by that actually performs when I need it. Glad I found this on Amazon since most stores no longer carry them.

I really like this can opener.
I really like this can opener.1. I ordered this as a replacement for a very old rusted Old fashioned can opener. My mom had an old can opener that was bought either before or just after I was born. I'm in my twenties.2. Me and my mom have gone through a handful of those twist can openers. And they suck. They get rusty, they stop turning and lose their sharpness. And they lasted less than a year each.3. Wanted to get a can opener like the really old one mentioned above.4. Twist can openers are trash.(don't waste your money) Electric can openers are a waste of money and electricity. The best can openers is the old fashioned punch can opener. And this one sold by Symak delivers. How to use a can opener like this. Take can opener, place it over can with sharp end pointed directly down. Rest the tip onto the can top. Hold with left hand and use right palm to punch down on can opener. Do this once or twice until the can opener punches through. Then simply move can opener back and forth next to the rim of can. Opens can easily.Pros : Sharp. Is able to cut most cans of multiple sizes.Long. Easy to hold because of long handle.Shiny. Very good smooth metal blade and handle.Cons : A little too thin. The handle is a bit thin. So one has to grip a little more tightly to put it into the top of the can. This also makes it harder to push in.Other than the thin handle. I would recommend this. Although for older people or folks with arthritis. I would recommend something with a bit of a wider handle.

It's a good reproduction but a terrible can open
It's awkward. It leaves a jagged cut. There is no easy way to pierce the can with it. I've heard it's a manly mans tool...well they can have it. Otherwise its well made and with good material. I had such high hopes. No blame to the seller. I even watched a video on how to use the tool. If you are into historically accurate items then this is a good tool to keep in your civil war bag but otherwise there are better designed can opener.

this can opener is light and very dependable
This little can opener works just like the one that we were raised on and that is you can depend on it when the others are broken, and if your a camper like me then when you get ready to open a can you want something that you can depend on and this is your answer, you can leave your other 2 can openers at home and the reason i say 2 can openers is because we take 2 in case if 1 of them tears up we can still open a can without taking a knife and opening it.

A little touch of yesteryear in todays modern kitchens.
To open cans that for some reason have slight dent and hard to open with regular can openers/electric can openers and they break my hand can openers. My family and I have used these small great can openers since forever and none of the stores have it. I don't understand it. They have all kind of handheld small can openers, but not this one. Not even in NJ or AZ. To my dismay. So, the light bulb went on in my head, to check online and I found them right away! I am very happy with this can opener,. I love it! Everybody should have one in their kitchen drawer. Everybody did when I was growing up. The people I spoke to are very nostalgic about this type of can opener. We all agree, it's the best! Thank you so much for selling them. While the price was less many, many years ago, the price now isn't bad at all. I recommend this product 100%.

Bad design
Don't get me wrong. If you know this design and like it, then it might be a great can opener to you.However. What I wanted was the most simple, straightforward, rock solid can opener, and not the plastic/electrical/overpriced crap they usually try to sell us in the stores. I was hoping for the European traditional design, but couldn't find it, so I went for this one thinking that it can't be bad as long as it opens cans.Well.It is incredibly longer and harder to open a can with this compared to the traditional European design. The design I'm talking about resemble the army can opener, but it is bigger and stronger with a better designed blade, and allow to open a can in literally 2 or 3 seconds, every time, cleanly and very easily, basically as fast and cleanly as a $200 electric can opener, but for 1 euro and a little wrist motion. However, I couldn't find this design on amazon.com, so I tried the US design. Very disappointing. If this is what americans call a manual can opener, no kidding they decided they needed electric ones.Otherwise, the product seems well built, so again if this desing appeals to you and you know it, go for it.

I am happy with it
Recently my can opener (one of the modern ones) decided to stop working. I was truly disappointed because it didn't even last for a couple of months. Upon reflection, i remember the can opener my parents and my grandparent use to use and pledge that I needed to go back to using the can opener that never failed me. I search high and low and finally found this item on amazon and I am happy with my product. Easy to use, gets the job done and is cost effective!. Sometimes the old time way is just so much better!
