This is driven by a NEMA size 23 step motor which is roughly 2.3 inches square. Therefor the diameter of the gearbox is also roughly 2.3 inches.

Q: What is the holding torque with the gear? only specifications it gives one without the gear.

Tricky question since torque is rotational force, holding torque of the motor refers to max continuous amps... Depending on your driving circuit if you're looking for breaking current you need a decent heatsink... Long story short depends on what your application is.

There is quite a gear reduction. Back driving isn't going to be done easily. If you want to turn it I suggest you use the motor so you don't damage the planetary gears.

Q: can i use a different stepper?

Tried it on one I bought a year ago and could not. There’s a gear that was pressed onto the shaft of the stepper I think. The gear box did not just slide off leaving a regular stepper behind. We had to find a stepper and a separate gearbox.
