Thriller is the sixth solo studio album by Michael Jackson. It was released by Epic Records on November 30, 1982, as the follow-up to Jackson's critically and commercially successful 1979 album Off The Wall. Thriller res similar genres to those of the Wall, including pop, post. disco, rock and funk. Recording sessions took place on April to November 1982 at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles with a production budget of $750, 000, assisted by producer Quincy Jones. Seven singles were released from the album, all of which reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. In just over a Thriller becam e-and currently remains-the best-selling album of all time, with estimated sales of 65 million copies worldwide. It has become the first album ever to be certified 32 times multi-platinum for U.S. sales, marking more than 32 million sales shipped. 熱狂の始まり 彼は凄かった
少し前から、2026年に公開の映画『Michael』がOfficial Trailerにてティザー公開されています。彼が亡くなって久しいですが、1980年代の音楽界を代表する人ですし、特に当時の世界の熱狂を知らないティーンエイジャーには観てほしい映画です。 さて、1982年冬のある日、何気なく聴いていた短波放送からPaul McCartneyの歌声が聞こえてきたのですが、相手は誰だろうと。すぐに雑誌で知ったのですが、それが「The Girl Is Mine」でMichaelとの最初の“遭遇”でした。その後、某テレビ局の世界の情報番組で「Beat It」のMVを見てなんだかカッコいいなと。アルバム『Thriller』を買ったのはその頃でした。その後は言うまでも無く、とにかく1983年から彼の人気は世界でも日本でも凄かったです。 この『Thriller』はLPを手放してから約40年ぶりに買い直しました。久しぶりに聴きましたが当然ながら全部良い曲です。あの頃の思い出・風景を思い出します。当時を知らない若い人にはぜひ聴いてほしいし、全盛期のライブ映像などを観てダンスを含めた彼の凄さも知ってほしいですね。

まあ、売れたわな
このアルバムのメガヒットのせいで、同時期に出た傑作アルバムの数々が2位どまりになりました。 ヒットシングルと、その他の曲の出来の差は、多少はありますが、捨て曲無しという感じで良いのかも。 結局、生涯、彼はこのアルバムを超えられなかったんじゃないかな？
