How fast is the FF and RW. Does it speed up the longer you hold it down. How long would take to rewind an hour or so worth of audio?

Yes, it takes about 4 seconds to FF through the first minute, then it speeds up to less than a second per minute.

Are Energizer lithium batteries okay to use in this recorder?

They only mention NiMH batteries in the manual, but i have a feeling lithium is fine. My old Zoom recorder "only" takes NiMH but i've been using it for years with lithium batteries with no problem.
