Eton American Red Cross Emergency LED Motion Sensor and Flashlight

Updating my previous review below. I apparently missed the most interesting feature. You can see the LED lens at the end....that's the flashlight. Obviously the more opaque lense in front is the 'nightlight' or should I say lantern feature. It's quite bright. Too bright in fact to be a nightlight. Ah....but that's the trick. When you go to bed there is a motion sensor and so when you have the lights out then are in bed, in about 30 seconds or perhaps a minute the light dims. Then it dims more. So it's bright and effectively a 'lantern' or lamp if you will in the room but then automatically dials down the light to a simple nightlight. Similarly if you get up in the dark it immediately gets brighter. It seems to be pretty good at discerning whether you are simply rolling over in bed vs getting up. Anyway I thought this was the neatest feature. Even if you don't think it's valuable for you, your kids will. --------------------------------------------------- Great product. Simple and effective. Plug it into a wall socket and you've got a great night light....light can select between several colors. You'll never wonder where the flashlight is when the lights go out because the night light will automatically come on....auto emergency lighting. Then just pull it out of the electrical outlet and use the flashlight feature. LEDs will mean long light. You could use for either a lantern or a flashlight in the dark. I guess I won't have to try to remember where I put the flashlight anymore. I'm headed out on a business trip next week and might take it along for the hotel. I hate that hotel rooms seem to have two versions of light....completely pitch black or leave a light on and too light.

I have ordered a number of these lights because they are just great for what I need when the electricity goes off. You don't have to do anything once you plug these in. They give off quite a bit of light to be so small and light weight. They are great for college dorms because you don't have to worry about a bunch of batteries and the power that they give off is great. I wish that they where in stock more often because I try to give them as gifts. These are so worth the cost that I paid for them.

Fabulous night light. Lights up bathroom just long enough and never worry about disturbing your partner. Have them in different rooms and feel comfortable walking in the night without switching lights.

Disclosure: The manufacturer sent me this product free of charge. There were no strings attached other than a request for an honest review. The Blackout Buddy Color is basically a very bright nightlight that can serve as a backup LED flashlight (e.g. in case of a power failure). No instructions were included in the package (which is rather hard to open), so I called the company. I was told that they are still working on the manual. It wasn’t too hard to figure everything out by fiddling with the Blackout Buddy Color, but a manual would have made it easier. Here’s how it works: When you plug the Backup Buddy Color into wall power and set the switch on the side to “Normal,” the internal batteries are charged and the Backup Buddy Color automatically turns on when the room is dark, and shines in a wide arc around the outlet. Tapping a little square button on the side cycles the light from white to blue to green. If you approach within 2 or 3 feet, a motion detector cranks up the intensity of the light. Although there is no way to reduce the brightness of the nightlight for sleeping, you can switch off the nightlight by moving the side switch to “Dark.” The Backup Buddy was way too bright to use in my bedroom as a nightlight. I think it makes a much better hallway or stairway light where it can’t shine into the bedroom, unless you or your kids prefer not to sleep in a darkened room. The motion detecting function is still active in the Dark setting, so if it senses you (or your pets or kids) nearby, it will turn on that bright, bright LED. If you remove it from the outlet or the power fails, the Blackout Buddy Color remains illuminated, and has another push-button switch that lights up another LED that serves as a flashlight. I tried leaving it on in that mode for 3 hours and it was still bright. Bottom line is that this thing does exactly what the advertising claims it will do, but it’s better for some room other than where you’re sleeping unless you like lots of light at night.

Major improvment from previous models that had poor quality plastic that became sticky overtime. This Eton emergency light is versaatile and bright when triggered and has several hues. It is perfect for bathrooms but could sometimes be too bright in bedrooms. Very portable when used as an emergency flashlight.

We love these, own 3 of them, and give them as house warming gifts when our friends and family move. The green color is superb for use as a nightlight as it is not too dim and not too bright. Be sure to buy the version where the plug prongs fold in. Otherwise, it is useless to carry as flashlight during a power outage.

These lights are easy to use and bright. Good value for the money.

There is nothing wrong with the product itself, in fact it is a very good product. Except that the cover photo is very misleading and give you the illusion of the item is a pack of 3, while in fact it is only ONE piece! It is not clearly stated that it is one item neither 3 items. And I purchased it trusting that it a pack of 3, and was very disappointed, after waiting for nearly a month to arrive, just to realize it is a pack of one item!

Absolutely love this product. Keeps walkway well lit with the ability to change color of the light. When power goes out, lasts all night long, Keeps the hallway lit for safety and security. Children feel comfortable. Parents know when children are awake at night as it brightens with motion detection. Great product

I have tried other brands like this one but this is the best. The Reactor Brand ones were always a trial setting them so they only were a motion detector nightlight. Now that brand has decided to add many bells and whistles to the inital simple device and they do not work at all. This one though, 1 switch, clear directions and it is ready to go. Plus you can change the color of the night light if you want.

I love the blue motion detector it lights up the whole room. I haven’t tried the flashlight yet so not too sure about battery life.
