Beware!
I have just ordered these and was quite shocked when I realised (only on checking my confirmation email) the price stated is 'WITHOUT' VAT. This is quite misleading and shoots the price up quite significantly. They better be blinkin' perfect!

More comfortable than bare feet!
Birkenstock sandals were recommended to me in the summer because of some hip/back problems I have. I bought a pair, expecting nothing, and wore them for a couple of days as suggested and, it is absolutely true, my posture improve and everything slotted into place. I was wary because their soles are not cushioned, but they are so comfortable I have now got five pairs of sandals and three pairs of clogs. They seem expesive for what they are, but what price comfort? I strongly recommend them.

the comfiest shoes in the world
They are great! Just a word of warning though, take a size smaller than normal. I usually take 39, but the 38 in birkenstocks is perfect. I have 2 pairs of the Madrid sandals and wanted a pair of birkenstocks for winter, these are perfect. They are warm even without socks and easy to slip on to go out to the bins, also have a good grip on snow. They are expensive but worth it.

Better buy Yukon Crocs...
Bought these as I was looking for a smart alternative to Crocs... I have plantar fasciitis (painful foot condition on base of feet) and had been told that Birkenstock were good. Have to disagree. Yukon Crocs beat them on all fronts, the heel cushioning in the Birkenstock is uncomfortable and inappropriately angled. Went sailing and hoped they would cope, but in water they turned to soft leather with no support - had to tighten the buckles to tightest to get any support. Good grip generally, but uncomfortable when cycling a bike earlier today. For me, I wouldn't buy again.
