Good Quality Card
Picked up this card for a new computer build. I'm running 64bit Windows7 on an Asrock Intel board. Just needed a printer port for my old Okidata printer. I picked this card because it looked like a better build than the others available. I got the latest drivers from StarTech's website. The port drivers were in the Windows 64bit subdirectory of the driver package. All the driver does is clue in Windows that the card's chipset is an Oxford OXPCIe952 chip, which is fully supported in Windows, the driver just needs to let Windows know what it is as StarTech is just a middle man of sorts. There's more to it than that but it's all just Windows housekeeping. Default install sets the port to LPT3 (printer port 3). You need to change this to LPT1 in device manager. When I eventually installed the printer, the IRQ is added to the properties in device manager. Worked great for me. Slipped it into the PCIe slot next to the video card and it snuggles right in out of the way. Wish they were all this easy.

Works perfectly
It took mere seconds to install the card in my computer. Windows 7/8 drivers are not on the included disk but are in the driver package at the StarTech web site. After installing the drivers, the port was instantly recognized in Windows 7. The port is assigned to LPT3 by default, but I changed it to LPT1. This can be done in Device Manager and may be necessary for some devices that are picky about the port they use.The true test was my Alps MD-5000 printer, which is reported not to work with many add-on parallel ports. Furthermore, it doesn't have drivers for anything newer than Windows XP, so I needed it to work in a virtual XP session within Windows 7. The Virtual PC software included with Windows 7 Pro doesn't support parallel ports, but VMware does and the printer worked perfectly. Now I can finally get rid of that old XP computer I've been hanging on to just for this printer.

Installation needs improvement
I bought this Startech PCIe parallel printer adapter card to connect an HP LaserJet 5 printer to my new, Windows 7 Dell desktop. Physically, the card was easy to install. However, once installed the card didn't work and the Windows Hardware Device Manager showed that there was no driver for it. I inserted the full-size CD that came with it and browsed thoroughly for a driver, but there isn't one on the CD that shipped with the adapter.I went to Startech's website, downloaded the driver, installed it with default settings, and Device Manager showed the card as working properly. I installed a printer driver for the LaserJet 5 and assigned it to LPT1. When I tried printing I only got errors. Upon closer inspection, the Startech driver assigned the card (the only card added to this PC) as LPT3. Generally, the default should be LPT1 if no other LPT adapters are present. After changing the card to be on LPT1 then printing worked fine. The card is good and works well, but be aware that it doesn't come with the required driver for Windows 7 and that it may default to LPT3. The manual that comes with the card only covers Windows through Vista with no mention of Windows 7.

Works great with Win 7 32bit and Mach3 CNC Controller.
I bought this card for a Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows 7 32bit. This setup is used to run my 3040 CNC Router through the Mach3 controller. It installed without a glitch and the Mach3/CNC Router is running great. When installing the driver for Win 7 using the supplied CD, navigate to the "\PCIe\OXPCIe952" directory then run "setup.exe". This will setup the driver for either 32 or 64 bit.WINDOWS 7 32BIT SETUP:1) - After installing the driver, click the Windows button then type "device manager" then select "device manager" from the list.2) - Select "Ports (COM & LPT)" within the Device Manager screen.3) - Right click the "PCI Express ECP Parallel Port" then select "properties".4) - Select the "Port Setting" TAB.5) - Select "LPT1" from the drop down list. Mine was set to "LPT3".6) - Select the "Resources" TAB and write down the first "I/O Range" in the list, mine is set to CF00-CF07.MACH3 SETUP:1) - In MACH3 select "Config" then "Ports and Pins".2) - Select the "Port Setup and Axis Selection" TAB.3) - In the "Port #1" section enter the Parallel port address, I entered 0xCF00 for my setup.

It arrived, was easily installed and within minutes my Laserjet from the 90's rejoined my office!
Ever since buying my new Dell XPS 8500, I had no success getting my old war horse printer: HP Laserjet 5P, to work with a USB/Parallel cable. It was sad to find no familiar built-in parallel interface, that was part of every PC I had owned for 30 years. After spending many frustrating hours searching for tips and user group hints, I gave up in frustration and planned to buy a current model. The bullet proof, great performing, 5P sat in a corner gathering dust. Browsing Amazon computer accessories one day, I came across a variety of Parallel Port cards. For under $25 what could I loose? It arrived, was easily installed and within minutes my Laserjet from the 90's rejoined my office!
