Outside

Outside has earned a place in my "Never leave home without it sub bag," for the winter. I have shared this delightful book with several classes and the children's response has been very enthusiastic. They are totally engaged by the story of a little brother finding beauty and adventure outside in the snow while his older sibling is preoccupied indoors with the TV and computer. Students were captivated by the gorgeous artwork illustrating the wonder of winter and a small child's imagination. This book works well as an interactive read aloud because children can relate to their own experiences, look for details, and enjoy the triumph of the little kid who gets it right first. Outside is a new winter classic that can be enjoyed many times for its stunning illustrations and appreciation of the natural world to be found just out the door.

We love this book. My kids are 4 and 2 and they both will sit while we read this book or I will find them quietly enjoying the pictures on their own. They keep going back to this one!

Like the idea and message of the book-especially since we are in alaska and have snow 6 months of the year- but I have a prefer more words per page. Even for a 3 year old, this is a pretty short story.
