Fun mixed up fairytale!
I got this book at a book swap in lower elementary school and have loved it since. I love sharing it with young students when we talk about fairy tales and mixed up fairy tales. It’s entertaining, surprising, and can lead to some good conversations.

A fun read
This book was my children's favorite. It was often requested to be read to them. The got many giggles from the twist of the story of the Three Little Pigs. So, when my son and daughter in law requested to gift of a favorite book for the baby shower I just had to give this to them. My son looks forward to reading it to their new little one someday.

breath of fresh air with this revisionist tale
A lovely yarn where the tables are turned on these classic fairy tale characters. Deeply insightful into modern geopolitics. The "wolves" are actually the sympathetic protagonists, while the "pig" is the villain. The "wolves" are not nearly as naive as their pig counterparts from the original story (which becomes important later). They are actually highly technically competent, able to construct solid bunkers from discarded scrap. They would dominate in a post-apocalyptic setting. Perhaps we will see them in a sequel pitting their wits against mutants and cannibals, if such a thing ever becomes acceptable in the children's genre.Several ancillary characters provide an interesting glimpse into the mindset of the author and her attitude towards various competing national interests. A rhinoceros, who is for some reason traveling the countryside with strings of concertina wire, seems quite affable and appears to want to help the "wolves". He also provides iron bars and heavy metal padlocks. This is never explained and we are left to fill in his motivations ourselves, though the parallels with Canadian neo-socialism seem quite clear. And then there's the kangaroo. The zaniness never ends with this callback to the 1970's Australian outback battles over water rights. It's hard to imagine a more clever way to present late 20th and early 21st century regional issues than this charming little fable about a "big bad pig".

Brilliant
If you haven't read this you haven't lived or laughed enough. More seriously, it helps young children familiar with the story of the three little pigs to understand that there are at least two sides to every story and that story is an organic dynamic thing and you can change the ending and how it goes. Really recommend it. Below it asks me to state the age of the child I bought this book for. Well, I bought a copy for my 6 year old great granddaughter who does not yet read at this level but has full understanding of the concepts when it is read to her. Another copyfor my mum, aged 89 who has a seriously good sense of humour and an enduring love of children's literature. And one for me aged 66, a retired early years teacher with a devotion to children's literature and literacy. Hmm. If you want useful answers you have to ask the right questions.
