The unforgettable true story of five evangelists who sacrificed everything for their faith. Elisabeth Elliot, beloved Christian author of Let Me Be a Woman and A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael , shares the story of five missionaries who were brutally killed in Ecuador―one of whom was her husband, Jim Elliot. In 1956, five young men traveled deep into the jungles to establish communication with the fierce and isolated Waorani tribe. In a nearby village, their wives huddled around a radio receiver, eagerly awaiting news of the historic encounter. The news they received sent shock waves around the world and changed their lives forever. Be inspired by these martyrs’ powerful examples of: Courage to share the Gospel in the face of danger Trust in God Repaying cruelty with forgiveness “ Through Gates of Splendor is a powerful wake-up call to all who may feel reluctant about serving Christ…. God used this book to change my life.” – Chuck Swindoll Review: Incredibly powerful - This book impacted me immensely. It is the stirring true story of book-of-Acts Christians living and dying for Jesus in the twentieth century. The faith of these five men and their wives has inspired and challenged me more than I can put into words, and this book is a timeless classic, so beautifully written. It will move you to tears and then to your knees in a burning desire to know the Lord on a deeper, more meaningful level. I highly recommend “Through Gates of Splendor” for anyone who enjoys sound Christian reading. Review: Amazing story! - Great book, would recommend it to anyone. Reads like an adventure novel with incredibly inspiring accounts of brave believers who trusted the Lord with everything they had. “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

what a light
Amazing read and reminder that God controls all. We don’t know the long plan but are only a blip in the plan.

The lives of people who have given their lives to ...
The account of people who have given their lives to God. No boasting, no self-righteousness. They simply did what they believed to be the obvious thing to do for God. There were a lot of details about the operation, which I found very practical. Before I read the book I thought the men approached the natives with to plan, just faith and boldness. However, the men thought about the approach, planned for months, took one step at a time, and covered all the bases that they could think of. They were not foolish - they were wise and trusting in God. At the end it didn't turn out as what the world can describe as "success." But God's standards and ways are infinitely different from ours. I think the book would have been more powerful though, if there was more written about the internal growth with God. Everything was mostly focused on what the missionaries were doing.

Stirring account of martyrdom
Elizabeth's writing is clear and precise, passionate yet unsentimental. This incident forms a watershed moment in modern-day missions. As a missionary myself it begs the question: am I willing to go even if it leads to death? Even more heart wrenching: if it means the death of a loved one, a husband or a child? This book stirs in me anew the conviction that, paraphrased from Jim, we cannot keep our own lives but can only freely give that which has been bought at a high price already through the blood of our Christ. What we gain in the process is for ever and can never be lost. There are still thousands of in reached people groups and millions if not billions of lost souls. If we have this gift, should we not share it freely to the ends of the earth?

Captivating
Elliot captures the personalities of the men through their writings and her eloquent summaries. Her humility and unbending focus on God's purpose make her straightforward account deeply inspirational. What a treasure.

For the believer who needs encouragement
Every time I pick up this book to read, I am encouraged to persevere, endure, and submit to the trials of life just like these missionaries did. It is a moving experience to read through these pages and see the glory of God in this incredible story.

Amazing Grace, amazing faith!
Like the story of Job in the Bible, God does not give clear reasons why he allows tragedies. What does come through is that God always was and is forever more a God of amazing Grace through Jesus Christ our Lord!

A clarion call to faithfulness
Through the gates of splendor, though telling of events that’s happened more than 60 years ago is a refreshing account that reminds us what it means to be a disciple of Christ. May we in our times and in our own ways seek to live as committed followers of Christ
