BajaRack Rear Ladder for Toyota 2010-2020 4Runner Gen 5

Hello. I only write reviews when a product is very good or very bad. I am very pleased with this.First, I checked with seller that this would fit my 2019 TRD Pro and it did. After install the top of the ladder misses the Pro roof rack by 1/8", perfect. The only thing to be aware of is that the added weight on the rear hatch is a bit much for the hydraulics, so you have to help open by hand a bit, but the benefit is that you have a nice handle using the rack so don't have to close using hands on the vehicles paint.Install hints:The install was not nearly as bad as some reviews note, but I’m very mechanically inclined. A couple hints...The directions give you dimensions for the top and bottom of the rear door to fit the ladder too. This is important as the install is tight vertically. I put two pieces of removable painters tape to the dimensions to guide me so as installed could quickly check. Next, the directions are a bit unclear on a small aluminum bar with adhesive one side. It fits in the bottom bracket and protects the inside door from the set screws. I used my painters tape as a check and test fit the bottom bracket to the door so I could locate the exact position of the aluminum bar and then affixed it to the inside door, using adhesive to affix to bottom edge of door. Do not set screws yet as the ladder make end has to fit inside the bottom bracket. I tried clamps to bring ladder and bottom bracket together but did not work. Had to have a neighbor stand on ladder and then clamped and bolted so bottom edge of ladder slid in bottom bracket slot. You know it’s perfect when two plates at bolts fit tight together when bolted. Then set the screws inside to finish. I recommend using Loctite to make sure screws stay set. Final note, you may get some residue on vehicle from cushions as move around during install. These came out fine with wax.

4runner 2016 sr5 fits perfectly & the product is well built, very easy to install one person can do it I love it 😊

Installed with 2 people. Drilled a little too hard and bent my door on the lower part. Only noticable by me. I used it recently on a cross country road trip. Very durable, handy for lifted 4Runners with loads on the roof rack. Held nicely with my trasharoo, would look better with an American flag flapping from it.They come black, I had mine painted white and I really like it. Head Turner and it's functional.

Overall a really cool ladder for your 5th GEN 4Runner. Slightly challenging to install even with written directions and a YouTube video. You will need clamps or a second person to pull down on the ladder in order to bolt it at the bottom.

Overall I am very pleased with this ladder! It arrived in two days, double boxed and only took about 45 minutes to install. The install itself would have been a lot quicker, but as some of the other reviews have mentioned, it takes two people to bolt the bottom bracket in place by having someone stand on the ladder.I will mention that I watched a video before installing, and the guy suggested not using the additional aluminum metal piece that is supposed to be placed on the bottom bracket, so I left that out of the install. It worked out very well and I am not sure what the point of that piece is anyways?! This may not be the same for all models, but my 2015 Trail Premium seems just fine without it!Other than that, it looks great, seems sturdy and was a great addition to my 4Runner. I will add some pictures as soon as I get a chance.

I had help installing this ladder and reviewed YouTube instructional videos and forums. It was not easy and did not work with my 2020 4runner. The ladder caused substantial damage by causing a crease like dent on the top of the tailgate. Also, the inside seal prevented the ladder from fitting all the way flush. I called bajarack and they suggested cutting away the seal. I probably should have returned the item at that point. When the tailgate was lifted it gouged the gap in between the roof and the tailgate itself. The ladder looks great but the damage it caused left me with an insurance claim. I would be very cautious. For me it was an expensive lesson.

I realize there may be a slight difference in the 4runner tailgate from year to year, (and two places are noted in the instructions which were perfect and not the problem) , The ladder rack was 2" too short. This is not a minor Toyota factory difference but a poor manufacturing process from BajaRack. I had to modify the rack to correctly fit my 4runner. Good thing i am a mechanic or it would have been sent back!!

Love my ladder and install is simple, but you will need a second person to make it easy. The second person needs to pull the ladder down or stand on the ladder while you tighten the bottom bracket. The seller was awesome, the ladder shipped out super quick and the ladder was at my doorstep in no time.
