My Brother's Husband: Volume II

The conclusion to one of my favourite series. A truly wonderful story of cultural differences, challenging social unconscious and conscious bias and above all what it means to love and be loved. A stunning piece of literature and graphic storytelling with beautiful artwork and great translation. I would urge everyone to read this. It is both uplifting and tragically sad, I read part 2 in one sitting utterly enthralled.

This continues exactly where the first book left off, with Mike getting closer to his husband's family. Yaichi's personal growth and understanding become a more focal part of the narrative, including a very charming scene where he shuts down an attempt by one of his daughter's schoolteachers to suggest that letting her spend time with her uncle is somehow inappropriate.

A great second half that makes you wanting more. Some good points regarding queer relationships and society divides that are treated subtly and respectfully.

This is just such a beautiful, gentle story of someone learning acceptance through experience, told through the always-great art of Gengoroh Tagame.

Enjoyable read and a fantastic sequel to part 1

Such a beautiful, innocent graphic novel. Love the art style. Everyone must read this!

This is a sweet and thoughtful story, charmingly illustrated - I received vol 1 in hard copy as a gift and enjoyed it very much. I bought vol 2 on kindle to save bookshelf space - this was a mistake! It's a poor quality scan, for starters. Each page has huge margins, but it still looks like the edges of the bottom panels are missing on some pages. The page order has been flipped to read left-right, but the panels still read R-L, and some of the pages are now out of order. Overall it looks ugly and feels unpleasant and frustrating to read. I've returned it and look forward to reading the hardcover book instead.

Yaichi is a stay-at-home father who lives with his young daughter, Kana, in Tokyo. One day, Mike Flanagan appears on their doorstep and changes their lives. Mike is the widower of Yaichi’s estranged gay twin, Ryoji. He wants to know more about Ryoji’s past and to meet his family as well. Yaichi and Kana welcomes Mike eventhough Yaichi is quite hesitant at first.This book made me cry. Aside from the beautiful illustrations, it was really interesting to read and know about the gay culture in Japan. Yaichi’s character growth was very pleasing to read as well as the bond between Mike and Kana. This a very emotional and heartwarming story about family and acceptance. I will defnitely read this book again.

Honestly, typing a recommendation while wiping tears away is no easy task.This book made e laugh, belly laughs, and cry, ugly cry. It is so well written that it's impossible not to relate to every single character that pops up with a shy smile and shiny eyes! The art is superb!Just read it, you won't regret it.
