Bought it as a gift
I bought this trumpet mute for my child who plays. She likes the quality and the sound produced. Fits well and stays in the bell.

Great mute, almost too good for a student player...
Several pieces of music required a nice mute. After looking at many options and reading a ton of reviews this was the one that was settled on. It came in perfect shape. No dents, dings, or transport damages. It has the center stem and the cork lining was perfectly in place. Stays in for as long as being used, comes out with proper force when you want to remove it. It was for a student player so price was an issue as it can be... challenging to keep things in good working order with younger players. This was a great purchase.

Wow (and Wow)
I have been a trumpet, cornet, and fluglehorn player for decades. Harmon mutes come in a surprising variety of styles, and yes, they have the same name, but they do sound different from one another. This Harmon B Model Aluminum mute produces the same sound that still produces some great jazz music. With the plunger removed, the Harmon mute makes a nice high pitched buzz that trumpeters like Miles Davis use to good advantage. With the plunger installed, the sound is louder and quite different. If you play a little Dixieland Jazz, you'll appreciate the nice 'Wow-Wow' sound you can get when you cup and un-cup the plunger with your free hand while you play. There are other styles of Harmon mutes out there, and most are more expensive than this model. In my opinion, the more expensive mutes simply do not justify the added cost except for the fact that some are made of more expensive copper. Is this the right mute for you? Let me put it this way. If you play the trumpet in combos or bands, you should have a variety of mutes in your mute bag. At the very minimum, you need a straight mute, a Harmon mute, and a cup mute. If you EVER play any of the old standards, jazz, or just like the sound, then you need this mute. You just can't beat the price either. One more note. Some mutes raise the pitch of your tone a bit, and you must compensate...either 'lip' it down, or move the tuning slide. This mute will tend to play sharp especially when the plunger is removed. I know you trumpeters can hear when you're sharp (or flat), but I didn't want you to say, "Hey, you didn't tell me the pitch would change".

Standard Harmon mute
This Harmon mute is a regular base standard for Harmon mutes and lasted me about 3 years before the stem failed and ended up breaking, however the mute during its time was still completely functional and worthwhile for the price if you take care of it.

For those with problems keeping it in....
Pro tip! (from my teacher), you need to blow hot air into the bell first. So do some slow long 'HAAAAA's into the bell, steam it up and then press and turn the mute in. It will not fall out afterwards. And what a great sound! More importantly, what a great workout! When I first got it, I put it in (without the wow-wow center piece), and gave it an anemic little blow and .... it didn't make much sound. I thought it was broken. No Miles Davis rattle! Then I thought about it, took a proper deep breath and really punched it. Awesome! I sounds like Miles .... okay, well, not much but you get that rattle cool sound.
