You can't go wrong
Purchased this for knife making. Hands down the best bang for your buck. Belts are easy to come by, plenty of power. Parts are ridged and can be easily trued. This particular one has a very small wobble. It is soft mounted (no bolts holding it down). But the rubber feet do a fair job of keeping things still. But still worth noting. This unit is a single speed. So you get what you get. If your heavy handed like me, then you can bog it down, but you really have to try. And being heavy handed you can flex the connection points such as the platen or the table. All in all this is the sander to have. You can't go wrong. Ps. There are some comments about the motor smoking after 1 or 2 power ups. I believe I know the problem. The spring loaded tracking wheel. If you force the handle into a locking state, (moving it up until it stops) you can sieze the motor. Don't do that. It's spring loaded for a reason. No additional adjustment needs to be made, let it do its job.

Belts are easy to find on amazon
Heavy duty and high quality, Belts are easy to find on amazon, Easy to work on it and super stable ( heavy, thats good). Not loud and must for shops, pro or home. I use it every week for all kind of projects. Great for knife sharpening as well. Motor is super strong, I sa unable to slow it down no matter what material i work with or how hard i press in it. Yeah its pricy but you het your money back with years of use and high quality. I got cheap Ryobi one and got tired of it. Glad i seen many on this one. highly recommended.

Good value
The plastic cover in between the disc and the motor vibrates a lot, causing an irritating noise. So I removed it and works great now without the noise. The machine works well for the beginner knife maker, witch I am. The belt speed is good and the 3/4 horse motor has plenty of power for me. It also doesn't take up much room. The only draw back is the work rest or table. I cut the right side corner off, to make changing belts faster and easier. I also wish that the belt side cover was metal instead of plastic. Just my preference.

This baby will have a nice dust collector connected that's for sure
One sander i hope and pray that can take the simple abuse of what rock dust, metal and glass dust will do to the motor that looks very well sealed. Ive killed many craftsman uprights in a very short time. This baby will have a nice dust collector connected that's for sure. Very strong sander indeed, i hope to get years of service from her Let me start by saying, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused to you thus far. Well worth the money! I did my Homework, JET stands behind their products!
first off before I get into this specific product, know the time and energy I spent looking into all of the belt sanders avauilable, the companies and if they are a legit company, if they will stand behind the product etc.... How reliable the products are and so on..... If you are in the market for a 2" belt sander, you can buy one of those cheap pos "Harbor Freight" brands like Chicago something, it's on amazon and all the other CHINA made crap. If china made a decent product i wouldn't care, but they don't. The pieces inside are plastic.what they say is cast iron is stamped sheet metal. as the sayiong goes, "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" Now as for this incredible buy. Firest off, I did allot of research on Jet, the company. You can do the same, They give a 2 year factory warranty, have repair centers all over the country and after the warranty is over you are not on your own. If it goes down, you need a part you can contact them they will firect you to the nearest service center and you can still have it serviced or get parts and service it yourself if you are that type. Point being, there are parts available for these! WhY? JET is a legit manufacture and company. Even Craftsman who had a good reputation for quality is a joke these days when I looked at their belt sanders. (all plastic.) Packaging was perfect, easy to open and get out (although this thing is a real machine and weighs a ton cause it's made of metal not plastic.) Assembly is a breeze, took 20 minutes. Everything fit perfect, was level, didn't have to do any adjustments or modifications. This belt sander has POWER, does not bog down no matter what. I am so so happy with it. I have owned machines 2 and 3 times it's price and this one in my opinion is as good if not better. I will be buying allot more Jet products in the near future as I am setting up a new shop. Tracking and belt change is also easy. This thing is so user friendly, I could not be happier!

Not the level of quality I have come to expect from JET Tools.
Not impressed. First off the machine I received is not what is pictured, it is not the old standard Jet tool white like my other Jet tools, that disappoints me as now I have this ugly grey colored tool in my shop. Second I don't feel the quality is as good as other Jet tools I have used or own. It's been 5 years since I bought my last Jet tool, and this sander just isn't at the same level of quality. Assembly was straight forward and quick, took all of 10 minutes to get it out of the box and set up. Be sure and check the motor mounting screws (socket head cap screws), all 4 of mine were loose. I took about 3/4 of a turn on each one before they were hand tight. The 4 SHCS that mount the sander frame to the base were all tight. Also check the phillips screws on the disc sander table as they were also loose. The table for the belt sander is not level from left to right. The table is about 10 inches wide and its out of level by 5/16" (I measured). The sanding belt cover is not hinged as stated in the description, two knobs are removed and the plastic cover lifts off. Got it all together and powered it up and the belt is dancing all over the place and not tracking center on the wheels. So I go to grab one of the three supplied Allen wrenches to adjust the tracking of the belt but guess what, none of them fit the screw, you need to get your own 5mm Allen wrench. OK, got the tracking adjusted and the belt is still drifting left and right by 3/8". I shut it down and unplug the power cord and open the belt cover. Looking at the three wheels I don't see where any of them are running on a bent shaft or when turning by hand I don't see any wobble in the wheels so I don't know what is causing the drift at this time but I will continue to look into it and update this review when I figure it out. As far as how it performs when sanding I haven't even put a piece of work to the belt or disc yet, so can't say. Motor is a little noisier than I expected so we'll see how that goes. Dust collection looks to be an afterthought as far as the location of the dust ports, especially on the belt. There are separate dust ports for the disc and the belt so you need to move your hose from one to the other or have both piped up and a blast gate between them or just pull on both at the same time. Neither of the dust ports fit the hose on my Festool CT-36 so will have to rig up an adapter. I would have gladly paid a little more to have the old Jet white paint and better quality throughout the tool. The missing 5mm Allen wrench is no biggie but it's the one wrench you will need most often since every time you change a belt you may have to adjust tracking. There was one Allen wrench included that I have yet to figure out what it fits, maybe they should have left that one out and included the 5mm wrench. Update 12/12/17: After using this over the past ~3 months I can say that my original review above still stands. Not impressed and wishing I had boxed it up and sent it back. That window has closed for me since I waited too long. But I will say if you buy this you're getting a Jet Tool in name alone, because this is not worth the $450+ asking price. One thing I will look for in the replacement for this is a sander with variable speed. Don't know if they exist but it is on my list of desired features. I replaced the supplied belt with a new one and that has helped with the belt wandering/uneven tracking some but still not what I would expect. Still not pleased with the ugly grey color. It has the look of the cheap import sanders selling for less than $100.

Great Product... Great Support
Works like a champ! I really do love it. I acquired this primarily for the belt grinding, and I have a complete set of coarse thru extra-fine belts. I leave the side off as I change belts frequently, which is fairly easy to do... more difficult with coarse belts. I've used the disc grinder several times and it is working great too. Now I need the vacuum system setup as the Jet will take metal off easily (with good belts). I did something stupid and needed support help. Because I messed with the tensioner incorrectly, I needed some help getting it working properly again. Mary in customer support was awesome, and she helped me get manufacturing images and instructions (typical of far east manufacturers - you must look at the pictures and do some interpretation yourself). All in all a surprisingly great experience. BTW as an aside, I purchased a bunch of neodymium magnets and placed them along the bottom where the belt runs. It is amazing how much metal gets attached to them... worth the effort if you like your lungs!

Good (boders on great) machine, so why 4 stars and not 5?
Received my unit yesterday, it is the newer gray model (so that's not a big deal). Assembly was fairly easy, it does need some adjustment after all it was shipped, weighs 70 lbs (shipping weight) so I'm sure the shipping folks weren't exactly delicate. There was a small section of casting flash on the edge by the disk which hand to be filed down so the dust collector would fit. They also send a few allen wrenches which don't actually fit the bolts you need to loosen for adjustment (still haven't figured out what they are for, guess I need to revisit the directions). The plastic dust collection cover for the disk was/is slightly warped and there were a couple of nubs that needed trimming to fit but it was fine after all the screws were installed. Do check tracking BEFORE you turn it on, mine was slightly off and put a little nick in the plastic housing but I'm sure that this machine will see worse. The machine is actually quieter than I expected and comes with a 100 grit belt and disk installed. Belt change is simple, not flawless (you have to finagle the belt out between the table and platen) , but simple enough. There are some reviews about the platen being bent, I believe the angle is by design to encourage proper grid pressure to the belt. Make sure when you adjust your table it is 90 degrees to the platen and not the belt. Slack belt grinding can be don by removing the platen or by grinding above it. Remarkably, it DID NOT burst into flames, smoke, spark, fly into pieces and cause mayhem as some of the reviews would lead you to believe would happen. Bottom line, initial feeling is this is a good unit, plenty of power, fairly quiet motor and decent build. None of the "issues" are deal breakers, I really couldn't find another mid range grinder that I liked so why 4 stars and not 5? The price point seems slightly high. For almost $500 I would expect perfection, no flash, no warped covers, etc. but that's just me. Most importantly I don't regret the purchase
