Great Illustrated Classics Set of 15 Volumes - Hardcover

This is a great way to get your young or struggling reader started on the classics. The basics of the books are there, along with simple illustrations. These books spark the interest of young readers, leading to an interest in reading the original versions of the books. It was great the other night while we were at dinner and my son actually engaged an adult in a conversation about David Copperfield and Journey to the Center of the Earth based upon his reading of these books. He has gained a lot of confidence in his reading, and confidence in talking about books. He loves it that he has read classics that most adults haven't even read yet. You can't go wrong with any of these books.

We got these for our soon to be 1st grader and 3rd and they both love the books. The fact that is chapters that aren't long makes the child feel so good about their speed of reading. They really enjoy the pictures in every page. And is been keeping them reading through out the Summer break!

This is a great way to read abridged versions of classics for your child, while also entertaining yourself. Recommend child's at least 4 yrs old and has a deep interest in books, even if there's a page of text and only one picture, or sometimes no picture (may need to be a little older for those volumes).

These abridged classic books were intended to be an introduction to classic literature. They do exactly what I wanted for my grandchildren; however, they are quite old and fragile. The binding on several has snapped away from the bound pages. Additionally, 2 of them shown in the picture are not in the set. They have been replaced by ones we already own. Disappointed.

I've been collecting them for my grandchildren to read. They love the stories and the adventures. The books get the kids ready for Middle and High School literature. By having read the easier versions before, the kids are one step ahead when they have to wrestle with some of the convoluted language. Besides, it encourages them to read.

I was expecting 15 books, so imagine my surprise when I actually got about 40! Great price, great books!

Bought this collection for the specific titles. And less than 1/4 were as advertised. A hassle. Wouldn't go this route again.

I was raised on these books and that was the whole reason that I ordered them because I knew my daughter and eventually my sons when they are older would love to read these. however we were looking forward to the Christmas one but instead we got a few others that we didn't want to include a little mermaid one which we already owned.Other than that we are quite happy with the collection!
