Return to the Rivers

An amazing gastronomical journey through sacred lands.
Not realizing this book had not yet released, I purchased this just looking for a simple cookbook to try by the noted Chef/Author, wanting to expand my own culinary collection. You will not be disappointed as this is likely his best work yet. Visually stunning with amazing photos, detailed descriptions of his vast journeys through ancient, sacred and oft-forgotten lands, you get an amazing first-hand account of the beautiful history and culture of the Himalayan people and what ties us all together - food. Simple, beautiful dishes that can be followed by anyone. It's not your average cook-book for sure. And with an endorsement by HH the Dalai Lama, you can't go wrong.

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING COOKBOOK
While the photographs in this book are wonderful, I am very disappointed with the number and the quality of the recipes. I regret this purchase and would NOT recommend this cookbook.

Out of the ordinary and exceptional
Every once in while you meet someone who is truly passionate his/her work, has paid his/her earthly dues in climbing the ladders and is highly accomplished. But rarely do you find a person who speaks out loud about these struggles, mistakes made and makes you feel like a long last friend - all in a matter of minutes. I met Chef Vikas Khanna and this man is "IT". I love cookbooks and read them like it is the great American novel. Vikas's return to the rivers is not the average curry and nan cookbook. There is a path that Vikas takes through to reach each recipe. Along this path he gets you to travel to the mountains and fields, meet amazing people and taste the food, all while just reading. As a foodie who loves Indian food, his book taught me a lot more than I knew about India and the cultural influences from their neighboring countries. It is great buy, a great coffee book and a good gift even. Highly recommend it.

A brilliant journey through the Himalayas...and the food is excellent too!
This is one of those books that you think might be too daunting to cook from because it's a massive toe. But thankfully, the recipes are quite easy to follow and the photographs are absolutely beautiful! Every recipe I have cooked has turned out well and I look forward to recommending and gifting this book to others. Vikas is not just another pretty face. He has an amazing culinary background and makes cooking Indian (and many other cultural dishes) simple and fun!

So much more than a cookbook
Vikas shares a very personal account of his journeys through the Himalayas, and in doing so, has preserved a way of life that many of us will never get to know. Full of beautiful photography, rich narratives, and enticing recipes, this book will satisfy you on every level.
