Easy to use; It's long!
Well made. I like the color separations on the scale; makes it quick and easy to know if you're SG is in the expected range before taking your actual reading. Unlike another reviewer, I actually like knowing that for my use, I will be reading near the upper orange and light blue bands.Cannot attest to its accuracy across its range, as I don't have a calibrated standard to check it with. FWIW, I've compared it to readings from a Brix refractometer, and I'm finding comparable/expected results between the two.The only downside to it is that at 11" long, I have to fill my 100-mL graduated cylinder almost to the very top to get it floating at approx 1.000 SG. I think other hydrometers on here were even longer, so maybe this is good for some people. I've actually switched over to the Brix refractometer so I only need a single drop of liquid for me reading, and I don't have the risk of contaminating my brew by pouring my sample back into my fermentation vessel (despite excellent decontamination and sterilization practices, as a former scientist, it's drilled into you to never pour a test sample back into the original container). Finally, unlike in the product description, it does not require AAAA batteries. Accurate and Easy to Read
I homebrew beer, wine, and cider, and you can't keep good records or (I think) make good beverages easily without a hydrometer. I purchased this hydrometer after my older one shattered in the bottom of my testing beaker. It arrived quickly like everything from Amazon Prime and I was instantly intrigued by it. This new hydrometer had a "Made in France" sticker on it. The shape is slightly different from my earlier unit, and it feels more solid and smooth. It is obviously high quality. After checking the calibration in plain water (spot on!) I have measured 4 different worts and it was a joy to work with each time.It might seem like a small thing, but the different colors make it really easy to read. The hydrometers that are monochromatic are just as precise but it's easy to forget which decimal you are looking at or "lose your place" on the scale. With the different colors you can narrow your gravity down at a glance. ,The glass body is smooth and even and shrugs off reading-ruining bubbles easily.I am coaxing several of my friends into the world of home brewing, and this is the hydrometer I have recommended to them.

Winemakers must-have...they are inexpensive so keep several on hand
Works as intended and a must-have for home winemaking. These show specific gravity, percent sugar (balling), and potential alcohol by volume. They will not measure the alcohol content for you, you must calculate that. Serious winemakers already know that. I keep several of these because I am clumsy and have a habit of dropping them. Don't expect these things to survive a fall, they won't. They are thin and brittle but if handled properly they are fine.

Works great!
Got this item, unpacked it, and promptly tested it out in tap water at the rated temperature for accuracy. It turned in a perfect 1.000 on the scale. Exactly as advertised, it works great for mead/wine/beer making to get the Original Gravity, Final Gravity, calculate the alcohol content, and determine whether or not the ferment is started, going, finished, stuck, etc. I like the 2 part slide case it comes in. Very handy, easy to store it in, and the case being square prevents it from rolling all over and breaking the hydrometer. Just don't push too hard and crush it by accident. Hydrometers are very fragile precision glass instruments, and should be treated with care. DO NOT flick them to get the water/must off, rinse, and gently dry with a towel, or you WILL break it!
