I bought this camera in the Fall of 2013. Now in July 2014, the IR lights randomly flash at night, setting off the motion detector and sending me 100's of alert emails when nothing is there. I wrote to Foscam, they said contact the seller for RMA, but of course, Amazon says it is too late to return it. My experience with it before the malfunction was problematic as well. I almost always had to hook it up to a Lan connection to access the control panel, even though it is supposed to work wirelessly (and did so on rare occasions). The updates are not simple to install and require careful reading of the translated instructions. And not being a networking guru means you are never sure what some of the settings actually mean, or whether setting them a particular way is off or is on. I hope Foscam will get their act together, but all in all a waste of my money and a disappointment.

I am currently running one of the FI9821W cams as a puppy cam in the house. I also have three FI9805W outdoor cameras outside of the house, with one overlooking the brook to keep an eye on water level, one overlooking the dog's fenced-in area, and one as a driveway security camera. I love the picture quality of this camera! It is remarkable, as is the ability to pan and tilt. I like the mount that comes with it, too, as you can vary the angle of the camera base to get further down below the horizontal in case you have your cam mounted high up on a wall. The IR illumination is excellent.All of my Foscam cams work well and set-up was fairly easy (especially after you get the first one running). You have to read the directions thoroughly and follow them carefully ... and have a bit of patience. Make sure that you do the firmware update and know how to get at your router's web interface before you start. I purchased Blue Iris as a desktop monitor and run LiveCamsPro on my iPhone and iPad ... all were easy to set up, too. In regular operation, the cams all intermittently drop signal for a few seconds here and there and quickly regain it - which works fine for me so I have not drilled down to see why that happens. It happens fairly often regardless of the distance to the router, etc... so one star off for that characteristic. I know that my NetGear N600 router is not the problem as I run other wireless devices off of it without problem. If the dropouts lasted longer or the cams did not come back on, I'd knock off more stars.

This camera was difficult to setup. It required 2 phone calls to tech support and 1 phone call to my ISP. I returned the camera because the the response to to the controls and video lagged so much that the tilt and pan were useless to me. If I moved the camera I never knew where it would end up. The recorded images and video were good quality if you did not need the remote access.

Calvin Harris was GREAT!!!He helped me setup the FTP to my cloud NAS drive. He explained what he was doing as he did it, and made sure I understood each step.

I already had two of these cameras and they are great. I just bought two more of these. One came with a European style power cord so it doesn't plug in here. Called Amazon, they offered an $11 dollar refund and said to purchase the power cord separately for $11. Seemed good so that is what I did. Got email that the plug shipped. Fast forward two days and I get email saying something happened and they cancelled my delivery. no reason given. Amazon even let me reorder the same part. hoping to get a cord soon..

Wonderful gadget for watching over a recuperating family member home from the hospital. Easily installs with instruction to your windows phone or iphone or computer.
