Beautiful book!
Being a Disney loving family (and a fan of Mary Blair's work myself), I bought this book to read to my daughters and to teach them about Mary. I could see this being a great book for story time at school or bedtime with your kids. The illustrations are beautiful and the story uses wonderful verbiage and descriptions of color. I read the other reviews and found some of them laughable and truly absurd. Mary was one of the first women to work at Disney's animation studios in the 1940's. To think she did not face challenges with men rejecting her ideas is just willfully ignorant. I suspect those reviews were written by angry old men and truthfully the negative reviews are what made me buy the book. My girls absolutely loved it! If you love Disney, art, and strong women, this is an excellent book to add to your collection.

Yay! For Mary!!!
I Love This Book! Although on a teeny tiny scale my artwork did not fit into society's box when I was younger, I experienced the discrimination Mary faced as a woman in a man's world... Until I was given a chance to shine. Me and my colors were allowed a space to flourish. Reading this book was a wonderful experience for me. I cried at the end. Tears of joy. I wishI had had this book to read as a child when my teachers tried to teach me the "right way" to do my artwork. I often felt no good, my colors and my style of shading with my crayons and adding to coloring book pages - outside the lines (horrors!) - were unacceptable to adults.I felt such happiness for Mary when she persisted with her colors. Colors have surrounded me - just like the illustrations in this beautiful book - all my 65 years. What a truly fantastic children's book!!! I read the Kindle version, but, I will be purchasing a hard copy of the book to read over and over. A book for all ages and abilities! Excellence!

LOVE THIS BOOK!
This book is wonderful! I ordered it per a friend's recommendation and it's so lovely. Beautiful illustrations, rich language, and an inspiring story for kids. Also, the suggested age is 4-8 (which I think is appropriate) but my son is 2.5 and he loves it and will gladly sit through the entire thing and then asks to read it again, in large part because the illustrations are so colorful and engaging! Highly recommend and it would make an excellent gift!

Great Inspirational Story
I purchased the book to go with our Artists Learning Unit but it was also perfect for Women's History Month. The story was very endearing and allows for the storyteller to add just the right amount of emotion. The best part of this book was the oohs and ahhs as I turned each page. The illustrations were very captivating for my preschoolers.

This one is special
This book and it's exuberant illustrations celebrate a worthy artist. The kids cannot stop staring at it, and i have a feeling it will inspire them in new and wonderful ways the more they look at it. I think this telling of Mary Blair's story honors her in the best and brightest possible way, and i'm excited to see how the book will change/inspire the way children see the world, much like Mary's works did/do. I can't wait to share more of Mary's art and movies with them, and hope her work (and this stunning book) will illuminate their lives like it did mine. For a Disney fan, this book is informative and inspirational and it's a beautiful way to connect kids to the Disney magic of my own childhood.

Gorgeous Book!
I bought this book to read with my daughter who is five. This book is everything I look for in books for her. It's beautifully written with attention to language and sound, it features someone who relentlessly follows her dreams despite obstacles, and it teaches readers about Mary Blair while helping them learn new color words they may not have heard before. It's stunningly illustrated as well and we spent time matching the colors used in the text to the colors used in the images. I didn't know much about Mary Blair as an artist before, so I'm happy I got to share this learning experience with my daughter.
