Absolutely AWESOME! My 9 year old can't put it down!
I messed up on getting to review the first book "The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud" so consider this my review on both. (I was able to give the previous book five stars but I didn't write anything.)So, this series is a must for any child in this age range who loves not only God but animals too. My daughter had only read one series before this (Bad Kitty books) and those were short but very cute and well done. I knew she could read well but she just never got bitten by the bug of reading for enjoyment. These books have done that! Yippeee! Not only did she rip through the first book but begged me to get the second book so she could read it as soon as she was done with the first. These books are daunting as they are quite long but I (at first) assigned my daughter a 30 minute reading time. Now, I homeschool and she has 30 minute reading regardless of her desire to do it or not. She has read many books that others would probably adore but this series took only about five 30 minute reading assignments before she just suddenly read for an hour or more ... all on her own. It got to be that she wanted to start school with reading first because she would just extend it on and on. I got hip to that pretty fast and had to assign the reading as her last subject but still, she would read for an hour or two without stop ... without playing on the Wii or watching TV either!I also love the fact that this author is so accessible and friendly. We wrote to her on Facebook and within 30 minutes, she had written back. It made my daughter's day to know that Max & Liz's owner actually wrote back! And yes, she does indeed own (a) Max & Liz which you can watch fun videos of on her FB page. Awesome! We just love these books and soon we will be buying the next in the series. Thanks so much Jenny for a wonderful fantasy set in reality. I love the world that my daughter is exploring with your Max & Liz! :)

Great Christian Book!
My daughter said this is the best series of books she had ever read! I would recommend this book for around ages 10, 11, 12, and 13.

As an adult, I LOVE these books!
Easy reading, sweet characters, biblical truths. I love seeing how Cote 'puts skin' on stories that are so often read without emotion or perspective. So thankful to have been introduced to these delightful reads!

Kids and parents begging to keep reading
I read this book (and the first book in the series) to my kids, who are 8 and 5. Both books they loved, and every chance we get they beg me to read them more. And I love it too. It makes the biblical stories come to life in a historical context, with lots of nuggets of wisdom placed throughout. We can't wait to start the next book in the series.I usually love putting on audiobooks for my kids, but was glad I didn't have this as an audiobook, so I could enjoy it with them.

Still amazed...HUGE FAN!
I was hooked with the first book so my expectations were in the rafters. Don't you hate it when you hear so many good things about a book or movie and finally read or see it for yourself only to be totally let down by the experience? It happens to me all the time...you know...the sequel is never as good as the original and yet they are produced all the time. So I went into The Dreamer, The Schemer & The Robe with high hopes and dared Jenny to let me down. She didn't! It was equally awesome.Jenny again uses her wonderful characters to put an unusual spin on a time tested Bible story. The process Jenny uses to align her characters with the story is nothing short of a puzzle itself. Once everyone gets in place and the rest of the story unfolds, it was just as thought provoking as the first book. Again, a story I have heard a million times and this book took me to fresh places. Well Done!So...here I sit, totally enthusiastic about both of Jenny Cote's books and waiting impatiently for the next to be published. My expectations are now in the sky and I can't wait to reconnect with the lovable characters that I feel I know. Hurry up please...I can't wait forever. For others that have not discovered Jenny Cote's books...please don't hesitate. Jump in. You will be glad you did. But I warn you...you will be frustrated when you read the last page of this book and know you have to wait for the third book. It is a small price to pay though for incredible entertainment.

Excellent Book!
We pre-ordered The Dreamer, the Schemer, and a Robe after falling in love with The Ark, the Reed, and the Fire Cloud. My daughter wanted me to go to the local Christian bookstore to check everyday to see if they had the next book in stock, so placing a pre-order let her know we would get the book as soon as possible. We were not disappointed and if it is possible, I think we liked this book even more than the first. We did it as a read aloud and my 7, 10 and 13 year olds loved it as did I. My 2 year old hasn't yet taken on the love of Max and Liz but I'm sure her time will come. We have lent these books out a couple of times and everyone we have lent them to has loved them as well. I bought a copy for our library because it wasn't available there yet.I am thrilled to see some well written, interesting books that encourage our kids to make right choices and to build their faith and trust in God. They point you go God without being preachy like many other Christian stories for kids.We are now waiting, not so patiently, for the next book in the series.

Met the author
I met the author Jenny while on vacation in Yorktown. She was doing a book signing. I started reading and could not put it down. I am 49 years old and I just finished this book and started the third book just in time for Christmas. This is a Christian book based on truth from the bible. However the author does use creative expression to fill out a full story and the characters you will meet while reading will have you staying up way past your bedtime. I love reading these stories. I will hopefully get to meet her again at homeschool convention in May 2020
