Grumbacher542 Picture Matte Varnish for Picture and Oil & Acrylic Painting, 11.25oz. Can

I have only used this on one piece of art, but it did EXACTLY what I hoped it would. I had a piece that was a mix of paint and sharpie (I used sharpies for outlines). I was concerned that the mixed media would cause a problem when using this product. However, there were no runs or problems at all. This varnish removed the shine of the piece PERFECTLY. Definitely recommend. As a side note, I did wait 6 months before applying this. I wanted to make absolutely sure my piece was dry and ready to add the matte finish. Glad I did.

I am a multi media artist and use both Matte and Gloss to seal my paintings. I use it on Oil paint, acrylic and wood, all with expected results everytime. I have used this with good ventilation indoors, BUT would caution against using it indoors. The fine mist can spread and may damage electronics etc in the home. I just take the project outside, spray quickly and bring it in to dry, even in cold outside temps, and it dries just like I expect.

Loved this finishing matte spray. Evened out my acrylic paint, gave a final professional look to my painting. Protective, easy to use. I did 2 coats, allowing a day between drying. Will use again.

Works well and is easy to use just keep in mind the smell is very strong.

I used this to seal the acrylic paint on a cosplay that needed a dull metal look. I used metallic paint that was very metallic - great for a metal look but too shiny for the armor I was mimicking. This matter varnish toned down the shiny to get that full metal affect I was hoping for! I also walked in the rain in this cosplay for a good 10 minutes or so and the paint was safe!

I used this outside. (First use ever) Just as well because it’s potent! Really strong smell. I held my breath while spraying and ran a few feet away before I took a breath. It does say on the can “...use of this product is at user's risk...” I’d advise you to not breath this at all. I did 4 coats and some of the Caran Dache neo color 11 pastels were still a bit smudgy. I’m sure a few more coats would solve the issue. I’m not sure how I’d use this in the winter though. Too cold to go outside. Too smelly to use indoors. I mean smelly as in I’m sure it’s not something you should breath.

I used this not for painting but for painted miniatures. Works great to reduce the gloss to nil. The smell is bad and seemingly needs days to air out, but I can't name a single varnish that smells nice :)

Works great. I did nine thin coats cypress frame and all letting it dry half hour or so between coats. I rotated the piece each coat. It looks great!
