Generally good, but several gripes that hinder what would have been perfect
To get this out of the way first: Much more common than not with 'carded' figures from Amazon- the packaging of this was bent, bursting open and unsealed, and not remotely capable of being displayed. So, if you're a collector, Amazon is sadly only reliable for 'openers' nowadays (but if you're a collector, or you speak to other collectors, you know their reputation and that this is something Amazon are notorious for now). It's a shame, because when Marvel Legends or the Star Wars Black Series lines choose card backs over boxes, they've done so specifically to make the packaging a part of the presentation/display/collectability offering on these particular items- but unless Amazon change the practice of forcing these into unsuitable protection; it'll remain the case that about 8 out of 10 of them will arrive damaged, while regular boxed figures have a much better likelihood of arriving suitably. The figure itself: mostly very good, but we've still not yet got a perfect Ice Man. This one is known for having a distinguishing, very visible 'seem' through the centre-front of the head/face from the function of the mold. It presents as a permanent, deep 'scar' down the centre of his face and spoils an otherwise good sculpt. The 'buck' used is appropriate to the character's build and musculature (although a new one that mimicked his slightly more 'blocky' iced features would be a little better).Articulation is good, including butterfly joints, 'ab crunch' and an excellent range of movement, including full knee bends and good elbow bends. Rockers on the ankles and wrists, too.I like the paint effect, personally (quite pearlescent and reflective), though it would have been perfect with a little more white as highlights to really sell the 'ice' and bring out the sculpt (which is a little lost and bland in the face).Transparent plastic, which this appears to be when held to the light (even though it's treated with paint), tends to 'break down' relatively quickly and becomes brittle and degenerates so that limbs snap off or even shatter; so I wonder about the longevity of this one. I suspect it'll begin to fall apart much sooner than other figures with different plastic formation, but we'll see.The 'ice toboggan/slide' is a weak inclusion because the sculpt doesn't really mimic ice as it's presented by this figure, and is also a completely different colour to him, making it seem like it's been sourced from elsewhere and thrown in with this and not a uniform, appropriate, suitable accessory. Spoils the appearance and lets this down.An extra set of hands (to illustrate forming his ice slide) would also have really benefitted this figure.Last gripe: It would have been great if the belt was removable/replaceable with an alternate, so he could more accurately represent his appearance outside the X-Men team (such as in the 'Amazing Friends' cartoon). If these were addressed, because I like Ice Man so much, this would be a 5 star figure, but several small issues compromise it when added together. Still looks pretty nice, though, and I'm looking forward to presenting him with my 'retro' Spidey and Firestar for a dream set at last.
