Perfect for my use.
I need to drill out some nailheads but I could not locate my center or prick punches. So, I went to Home Depot but could not locate anything that I could use. In fact, I went to 2 Home Depot and still came home empty handed. They have nail sets which have flat points which I have. Using that on a nail head would just drive the nail deeper into the wood, not what I want at all. The website of Home Depot has limited selection. So, I search Amazon instead. I am glad that I did that. I was able to find this punch. I also got this punch delivered on the next day. Save yourself a trip if you need a prick punch, just order it here. The knurling seems to be cut instead of rolled which is understandable as the steel is rather hard. The whole punch looks made from a round steel rod. Very simple to made but appears to be well made. Just be careful as this punch could roll off the table or workbench. Other than that, this is exactly what I needed. I was able to mark drill starts on nailheads with ease. Always use the correct tools for the jobs and this would make life so much easier.BTW. I like that this punch came without any plastic retail package. It was just placed in a small envelope. Perfect.

Still the old quality and still US made
In recent years I've been surprised at some of the changes at Starrett and some of what they let out the door as acceptable but their punches are all still up to snuff and I've retooled with several new ones from them recently. Easier to just buy a prick instead of regrinding a center punch as I've often done. I do wish they offered some punches with a squared body or head, something less likely to roll away when bumped. But these are still great, and a low-angle prick punch is often worth the extra couple seconds' use before a center punch when placement accuracy is high on the list of importance.

Punch
This thing is so finely made…. I mean the knurling detail and overall quality is just amazing. I can’t afford the best of everything in life, but once in awhile it’s nice to treat yourself to a tool that just far exceeds industry standards.

Nicely machined
I like this punch. It is nicely machined and has a sharp tip. I mainly use it on on wood.

It's a Starrett tool.
Very small center punch. It's Starrett, so quality is assured. It arrived with a very sharp point and worked well on non-ferrous material. I would use it on most steel as well. Fits nicely in a smaller drill bit case.

Very Fine Punch
This is a spectacularly good punch. I have used it on nickel silver 4 or 5 times already, and it has worked flawlessly and retained its finely ground point.
