This is so useful!
I bought this for my mom a few years ago and it worked great! It helped her move from sitting to standing. I ended up buying a total of two so that she could sit in any chair she wanted and not have to carry this herself from seat to seat.

Worthless
It is a well constructed product. However it is poorly thought out and poorly engineered. It is intended for frail or handicapped people to use, but is impossible for them to manipulate. It may be OK if you have a full time servant with you to open and close your cushion for you. Total waste of time and money.

A Very Helpful Assist Seat
The Uplift Seat Assist works well in aiding one to rise from a chair. I would recommend it to someone with leg weakness, but still having some leg and arm strength to help raise and lower from and into the seat. In my opinion it is worth the expense, although there seems to be significant price variance from seller to seller on Amazon. While it is firm to sit on, I have not found it to be uncomfortable for at least 2 hours without rising. Please note that I have the Uplift Seat Assist (MED-UL100) which has a memory foam cushion. It costs somewhat more than the otherwise identical Upeasy Seat Assist that has a polyurethane cushion. I am unsure how the polyurethane would feel. The Up-lift.com website has a good explanation of both seats and how to use them. I would recommend initially setting the weight on the seat to lower than your actual weight, as, in my case, this is sufficient. I weigh 200 pounds, and have found the 160 pound setting to be sufficient. The next setting up is 190 pounds and there is also a setting at 220 pounds on the standard model. Setting the seat is likely to be difficult if you are somewhat frail. I am not strong, but by using my weight to press down on the seat when setting it, I am able to do so. Be aware the seat is 9 pounds in weight so carrying it around may not be especially convenient. A large, sturdy tote is useful. I found the Large Boat and Tote bag at L.L. Bean to be an appropriate sized, sturdy bag that can be used to help make the Uplift seat more portable.

The lifting concept of this standing assist is a great idea. I need help to get up out of a chair but I don't think this is the solution for me. I have Parkinson's Disease and balance issues. Normally when I sit down, I "plop" down! And I don't always end up in the center of the seat. The type of chair you use is critical--it must be stable and secure. The seat would sometimes wobble when I sat down which would put me in unbalanced mode. However, the pneumatic lift worked just fine and seat was not uncomfortable.

Thank goodness!
This has given me back my freedom to go to restaurants, movies, and concerts! My knee replacements {rheumatoid arthritis) have accumulated a lot of scar tissue, and my poor knees just don't bend anymore. Talk about crimping my style! My social life was nonexistent... for the sole reason that I couldn't get up out of a normal height chair! This device is a miracle. You set it up by standing it on the front end, pushing down on the back edge of the seat and moving the hydraulic arm into the right position for your weight. It's actually quite easy with a little practice, but it does require some pressure. Then you just put it on any chair with the lip hanging over the front edge and sit down on it. Your weight presses it flat but as soon as you lean forward and push up on the armrests... up you go, nice and easy! It is very well made and they even put non-slip rubber on the bottom to keep it in place and protect your furniture. The whole seat is covered with a 2" memory foam pad which wraps around all sides and makes it very, very comfortable. It is portable in that you can easily carry it into a restaurant or theater, but at around 10 lbs. it's a bit heavy to lug around if you are walking any distance. The weight seems to be necessary as the device is very solidly made and sturdy. The one thing I would add is a shoulder strap, or a place to connect one. I think it is advisable to "uncock" the hydraulic arm and store it flat, because if you left it set up all the time it would shorten the life span of the hydraulic arm. The cover is little tricky to put back on until you remember that, like everything else, the tag goes in the back!

Life changer!
This uplift chair lift is a life changer for my husband! Being unable to get out of a chair due to poor leg strength left my husband dependent on his family members for everything. Now all he has to do is get himself started out of the chair and he can get to the kitchen for a snack or to the bathroom, or even to the family room to watch TV without assistance. It has really helped his ego too. He loves being more independent. He has it on a chair with casters on carpet and it works just fine. Our carpet is thick. No worries that the chair will move and be a disaster. It could be a problem on surfaces such as wood floors, indoor/outdoor thin carpet or vinyl and casters on the chair. He says it's not quite as comfortable as the upholstered chair he has been using, but he has no real problem with that aspect. This morning I was very surprised when he appeared at my office door which is down several stairs without any assistance from our son. A life changer for all of us!

You can't return this!!!!
I was looking for assistance for my elderly dad who had a hard time getting up out of his chair at the kitchen table. This made him way too tall for the table and therefore he could not use it. It was also uncomfortable and hard. Thinking I could just return it, I found that I could not. YOU CANNOT RETURN THIS!!!! What a complete waste. I am angry that this was not disclosed more prominently. I feel ripped off.
