Wonderfully Done Action RPG
I must say, I'm impressed! I only have several hours into this game, but it has me hooked! Though this game gets great reviews, it didn't seem to make much of a splash when it hit the shelves. I pre-ordered it, and finally got the time to fire it up. If I were to compare it to other games, it seems like it's closer to Fable or Nier, than it is to other RPG's like The Elder Scrolls or Final Fantasy.***Sound, Graphics and Technical Stuff***The graphics in this game remind me a bit of WoW - not so much as a direct copy - just in spirit! You'll see lots of vivid colors and a slight cartooniness throughout the game. The voice acting is top notch, though the lip syncing leaves a little to be desired (no real bearing on the over all quality, though!) KoA: Reckoning also feels fairly polished. The frame-rates are largely stable, and I haven't dealt with any crashes or glitches. Those interested in padding their trophy list will be happy - I think there are 100 or so available in KoA: Reckoning. Many of which are awarded just for playing a game (and might be hidden.)***Game Play and RPG Elements***So far, the story has my attention, and I'm eager to see what happens next. The side quests are numerous and for the most part, rather interesting. Right off the bat in games like Skyrim, Oblivion or Fallout, I often feel overwhelmed. This feeling frequently stays for the first several hours of play time. Kingdom of Amalur, on the other hand, feels quite welcoming as soon as you start! Things aren't nearly as forced as they are in say a Final Fantasy game, but not being as open as the more sandboxy titles is actually a welcome change of pace!Questing feels almost exactly like it did in WoW. They even highlight quest-givers with yellow "!" and "?" when they have a quest to give or receive. If you're not familiar with these, let me sum it up: The world of Amalur, or whatever they call it, is filled with lazy and weak people that make you do their bidding. The quests consist of target hunts, gathering of items/goods, acquiring goods (like make potion X or buy item Y, and bring it back,) and clear dungeon Z. Rewards are given in experience points, and often money/items.I really like the way you can custom-build your character, and not feel pressure (you can redo your "spec," if you wish!) The crafting system is also nice - simple, yet effective. Combat is also nicely done here. There is enough button-pushing to make you feel engaged the whole time, but not overly done, like they do in some other Action RPG's. Leveling up is easy enough in this game. As I mentioned before, quests grant experience, as does combat and finding various things (stones, hidden treasures, etc) while exploring and opening locked chests. The crafting system is simplified enough to not be confusing. You can salvage your weapons and armor, which provides you with parts to make new things. Relying on only salvaging, however, is a crap-shoot. After salvaging countless weapons and armors, I still haven't found the right things to make a chest piece for my rogue. Many shops will sell you components (often really high end ones, too) for a price. Alchemy works in very much the same way it does in other big MMO's or sandbox RPG's - find herbs in the wild and combine for potion effects.Ultimately, I highly recommend this title!

An Incredible Way to Escape the Real World
I bought this game from Amazon on a whim after spotting it in a store and reading the description on the back, then going back and forth on it for a month. I finally decided to go for it and I am sooooo glad I did. This is probably one of the best games I have played in my entire life - it's up there with God of War and Dragon Age for sure. First of all the graphics in the game are better than both GOW and Dragon Age, the music is great (if you're like me the soundtrack can make or break a good fame or movie), and the story line is excellent. There are too many quests to count, different options and rewards depending on your decisions, and several expansion packages (I bought one and really liked it). There is nothing worse than a great game that ends too soon, but Kingdom of Amalur just keeps going and the options are endless. This game was a total score for $20.00 and I would recommend it to anybody into this genre.Pros:-This game is in the third person (you can see your character on the screen). I prefer this because playing in the first person gives me a headache ("simulation sickness").-Graphics and music are excellent-A truckload of customization is available, from your character, to his armor, to his weapons, magic, and skills. You can even craft your own weapons out of stuff you find with all of your favorite abilities. Very cool. There is also a bunch of other things like gems and shards to augment your weapons and armor even further!-Several expansions available online. I bought The Legend of Dead Kel and really enjoyed it. I wish I had bought it sooner honestly because I was already maxed out on XP. If you're interested I would by the expansion ($10) once you hit level 10.-Game play is pretty simple for all that you get - no confusing instructions.-Combat is simple and expandable - your abilities unlock cool fighting moves with every weapon, and you can focus more on the weapons you like.-The entire world in the game is huge and seamless, travelling from one country to another for hours (I think I'm up to 80 hours of game play and still haven't finished the game). The game only "loads" when you go inside buildings or caves - everything else is wide open and free to explore without those annoying loading screens. You can even upgrade your map to show you enemies, treasure, and secrets throughout the world.-You can own houses where you can store inventory if your on-person inventory is full.-Save whenever you want, wherever you want - I hate games that only let you save at certain points.Just a few cons:-Combat can be a little repetitive sometimes. There are a good number of enemies in the game, but after playing for about 10 hours you will probably encounter them all. It is still fun to kill them in different ways!-Travelling can take a while sometimes. You can "fast travel" between places you have already been, which helps.-Very rarely the camera gets thrown off and your screen gets cut in half. You can fix the problem by adjusting your camera angle, but sometimes it happened in the middle of a battle which was annoying.-I would have liked more magical options, more finishing moves for enemies, and a more destructive environment to liven up combat.-Your max level is 40. This can be disappointing if, like me, you've maxed out and you're only about 80% done with the game. I also have about $8 million in gold - so much it has become pointless to search for any more. I would like to continue to earn XP and grow my character, but once you hit level 40 your down (though you can talk to Fateweavers that can clear out all of your skill points and let you reassign them all if you want to make a change - better than nothing and good if you chose a path your not happy with).I would really like to see a sequel to this game. Like I said it was a complete surprise that I enjoyed it so much, but I'm really glad I gave it a shot.

A Forgotten Pearl
38 studio did a good job by making this master piece, however not many people know about this pearl because compare to other RPG game company, 38 studio is not a big name at all (too sad, this company bankrupted as well). I'm a big fan of Diablo series and World of Warcraft, so I have been looking for a comparable title for my PS3. I tried Dragon Age I, II, Two World II, Skyrim, Dungeon Alliance, Dungeon Hunter, Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 but none of these can hold my breath until I tried Kingdom Of Amular: Reckoning. To save you time, I will go straight directly to pro and cons to help you make your decision.Pro:- Realistic action (you can dodge, sprint, parry like God of War)- Excellent art work/graphic (like World of Warcraft, Skyrim)- Classes are customizable (you can build your own class, Warrior Mage, Rouge Mage, Warrior Rouge), you decide your own path.- 100+ hours of game play with hundreds of side quests, faction quests and other interesting tasks- Game play is solid and well design (third person point of view)- World is big (not as big as Skyrim, but bigger than Diablo III and may as big as Dragon Age)- Lots of place for exploration and loot- Items are socketable (like Diablo series where you can insert a gem(s) to your favorite weapon)- Equip different weapon types will have different moves so you wont be bored quickly like when you play other RPG games- 2 Expansions for more storyCons:- Sometime crash (make sure you save before and after a big quest)- No online play (single player only, I wish I can do PvP in this game because the game play of this game is totally designed for PvP)In summary, if you like Diablo style game play, World of Warcraft's artwork and God of War's action, this game is right for you.

BEST RPG EVER!
This is a FANTASTIC game. Over 200 hours of gameplay is what I was told by a friend, and so far it certainly seems like it! The world is HUGE (think Skyrim huge) and frankly I'm having so much fun doing side quests I had to stop myself to go advance the main storyline. The special attacks look great and realistic, graphics are good, the enemies are good and I like the ability to make my own weapons and armor (or not). You can change your stats and character style (from warrior to mage) as many times as you want as long as you have the money to pay a Fate-Weaver, which is a really nice change.. you're not locked in to one play style.HIGHLY recommend this game, it's a ton of fun!
