Great whodunnit in Italian
I really enjoyed this book as it was a compelling murder mystery, with believable characters, and several twists. This is the 4th book that our Italian study group has read by this author and I wish there were more. The book opens with the murder on a steamy July day in Vieste, a small town on the spur of the heel of Italy. the author introduces the characters with their backgrounds relating to the victim. She describes the scene of the crime, possible culprits, inhabitants of the building, and possible motives. I liked the way she used phrases and idioms (with explanations), that added to my Italian vocabulary. We read a chapter a week, so it has taken nearly 5 months to read this 125 page book but our group leader has made it interesting by requiring us to ask questions about our reading and to use the words of the book. We have also visited Vieste via Google and looked at some of the sites and a restaurant noted in the book. As we move onto another book, I look forward to a new book by this author.

Real Criminal Novel
Verita Sepolte (The Burried Truth) written by Sonia Ognibene is a real criminal novel which begins with the crime, sets a series of events and motives that require investigation, reveals interesting characters and at the end leads reader toward a reveal and resolution. Reader will be pulled into the drama immediately starting at the first chapter. Written in the best traditions of criminal stories of Sherlock Holmes it was difficult for me to guess who committed the crime. It is obvious that the author is excited about criminal stories and creates puzzling and dynamic characters.Book is an excellent tool for anybody who wants to improve the knowledge of Italian language, it is written for students at A2-B1 level and includes Police Dictionary, idiomatic expressions and summary at the end of each chapter. It was difficult for me to put this book down. I am looking forward to read more criminal novels written by this author.

More mature story from this author
This is the fourth story in this series and it was my favorite. Unlike the previous 3, this one deals with fully mature adults going about their work lives and dealing with adult problems. The main character is a smart detective who has to deal with some very strange people and very unpleasant situations. There are unpleasant sexual and homosexual references, ridiculously rude people, secretive and lying suspects, and even an old friend who hides things. All this gives the detective a chance to show how smart she is, and trying to work out the clues helps maintain interest as you try to learn the language.

Really engaging story with an interesting twist
I really enjoyed this book, and it helped me learn a lot of new and useful vocabulary. I was interested in the characters and I loved that as I went along in the book, it became easier to just read and enjoy it, as I began to recognize and remember new words. I'm about to buy another of her books!

Great story - great learning tool
This is the second book by Sonia Ognibene that my Italian teacher and I have read together. As we did with Non Puoi Essere Tu, each week we start out with a brief discussion of what happened in the previous chapter. Next, I read a chapter out loud so we can work on pronunciations and then I translate, asking questions which he fully explains. At the end of the chapter, he will ask me questions or ask me to summarize what transpired. We both really enjoy this format and I've learned so much. The story of Verità Sepolte was a compelling story with entertaining characters and we laughed out loud at various points. Next up is Sarai Mio. I don't know what I'll do when we finish the 4th book -- I hope by then Sonia adds another to the collection. Please!

Authentic!
At last I found an Italian reader that's the real McCoy, not flat, adolescent writing "translated" (and maybe badly) into different languages. This story was not oversimplified but very easy to read. It is real Italian too, and I can feel the difference after suffering through other books sold here on Amazon.I wish I had found Ognibene earlier. I ran through this one in two days and will buy at least one more, out of gratitude.
