Painted Steel, not Aluminum
Nice box at a reasonable price. Painted steel, so a bit harder to drill or punch than an aluminum box. I used one of these for a power supply build and it worked well, however, i did replace the front with a thicker plate made out of Aluminum. The panels are are all screwed to the two plastic bezels, front and rear. Everything is held together with those plastic pieces, but it works OK. You can disassemble the front, back, and top cover, for easy access to the bottom to mount parts. There are reinforcements on the top corners, as the cover is fairly light gauge steel. Nice paint job, maybe powder coat. Mine arrived damaged. Packaged, in very light gauge bubble wrap, and thrown in a box with other loose items. There is a scratch in the front, and a dent in the back. The bag of case screws thrown inside the box, scratched the inside, so I can't just turn the scratched plate around, because the inside is worse. Most people take pride in their work, if they are allowed to do so.

Don't waste your time.
I bought my first case like this from another vendor and it was fine. The joke I received from this vendor arrived in a beat-up Fed-Ex bag and not much protection. Fortunately, it seemed ok at first. Let me be clear. THIS WAS EXACTLY the same case ($1.50 less) however I noticed that this case did not have the front and back attached when it arrived. So I drilled holes into front panel only then to discover that the front and back panel do not fit! That must be why they were not attached when it arrived. The front and back panel would not fit into the white plastic frame.Since I've drilled the front panel I can't return it. I'll eat the 20 bucks and never use this vendor again.

Good for small projects
I was skeptical reading some of the negative reviews, but you can't swim if you don't dive into the water. The boxes are actually quite good for small projects, quite sturdy but cannot handle heavy transformers or other heavy weights, e.g 12V, 10Ah SLA without some reinforcement (use some aluminum bracing using the plastic frame), so quite good for lightweight electronics.I used mine for Power Supply and Emergency Lamp and worked quite good for my applications. The sheet metal is extremely thin varies between 0.5 to 0.6mm but due to the plastic frame support they overall stay sturdy.Actually it was an advantage to cut a 40mm hole using a hole saw to cutout with a cordless drill and came out nice and round without need for much filing to remove burr.I recommend using painters masking tape to cover the front and rear plates before drilling or cutouts to prevent scratches. The paint is quite good and does not come off easily, if you happen to scratch the surface.Overall I would recommend as a good buy, but individual choices may differ for each application.

Great Value - Minor warning
The unit has a mostly plastic frame with metal top, sides and bottom. (Tin, not aluminum). Adequate enough for most all uses. NOTE: The metal cabinet is only screwed to the plastic bezel pieces. Thus, the cabinet is NOT grounded. I used this for a few arduino projects and EMI (in and out) can be an issue. So add an extra screw(s) from the upper cabinet to the lower metal frame piece. (A 3 min job). This should certainly be done if you have AC line power going into the unit also.

Great little low cost hobby box however.....
Great little box but came poorly packaged in a plastic bag. Consequently the corners were beat up. This box is fine for home projects as long as you do not have to meet any grounding or shielding requirements. The base, front, top and rear panels are all insulated from each other making proper grounding and shielding impractical. The front and back panels screw into plastic so they will not take a lot of answer,y and reassembley. But it is hard to find a Caddilac when your pocket book says Volkswagen !
