Great outtakes
This is worth the price just for the outtakes the sound is better than the album, so similar to the John Lennon plastic Ono band one, and equally as good as it so if your a Beatles fan it’s definitely for you

Mostly good, but overcooked bass
A wonderful album I enjoyed a great deal when it first came out. This 50th anniversary remastering is mostly excellent, clear and more immediate than earlier remasterings. However the bass, certainly in my system (Rega Apollo CD player, Rega Elicit R amplifier, KEF LS50 Metas and REL subwoofer) is overcooked. It is tuneful, but to my taste has just a little too much weight. With some tracks, Wah, Wah for example, that weight works fine, but with others it is just a bit too much. Looked at in the round though a good remastering of a superb album.

Revealing new mix of a classic
This is truly a classic album. The new mix is not as radical as some would have you believe and if, like me, you already love the album and have done for decades, sometimes it is hard not to simply say this is different, why did they 'mess' with it?. Actually, I believe the songs are simply of such astonishing quality that it is possible to enjoy different mixes without having to say which is the better - they just provide different insights (e.g. the new mixes tend to have George's voice more to the front, somewhat more contemporary revealing of the bass and drums and somewhat less reverb than the original Wall of Sound version etc.). I am one of perhaps a minority who loved the 'third vinyl disc' known as Apple Jam and I especially like the new mix versions of these. Most interesting of all to me are the 'bonus' versions of George on his own (ATMP unplugged) and the simple arrangements with just Ringo on drums and Klaus on bass. It is intriguing to follow the evolution of the songs through to the final versions - further proof that great songs work whatever the arrangements (If you haven't heard Nina Simone's version of the beautiful 'Isn't it a pity' you must). Anyway - for me I love the original, George's later simple remix and the new 50th.

George Harrison's classic album
Showcases George's writing and musical talent that was underutilised when he was in the Beatles. Fantastic listen.
