Q: Would this be a good size for a shoe basket by the door or is it too small?

You could certainly use this laundry basket to hold shoes by the door, if you had a large entrance way, as the basket is quite large at 25"L x 19"W.

Q: My basket arrived weeks ago and it still smells so bad that I can't have it in the house--it is smelling up the garage! Does smell go away?

It's extremely odd that your basket smells like anything. I think you should return it, because something is wrong. I have bought many baskets from The Basket Lady, and they have never smelled bad ever. I did have to return a basket one time also, and they were super nice about issuing a refund, so I recommend you exchange the one you have.

Thank you for your interest in our handcrafted wicker laundry basket. Unfortunately, we do not offer this liner in purple. Perhaps you can find someone on Etsy that can make one for you. Alternatively, you may be able to dye the fabric liner with fabric dye, although we have no experience doing so.
