Great on a single sail dinghy.
So I bought this to help me when learning to sail. It’s small, easy to fit and works a dream. That said, I bought it for my 14’ boat which has a sail and a jib so it can’t fit anywhere (that’s on me, the product is great).Anyway, my wife borrowed it and promptly lost it but I’ll be able to dine out on that for weeks yet so not a bad loss.I’ll buy another and find a way to fit it as it is really useful.

GREAT BIT OF KIT FOR DINGHY RACING
I’ve recently started sailing Lasers about 6/7 months ago and have been stuck in a rut for the last couple of months floating about on the lake, not making much progress and not managing to join in with the racing. I’d been putting off getting a wind indicator because I wanted to learn without one and not become reliant, but I wish I’d done it sooner. First session out the other week with this kit and I was straight into my first racing! Highly recommend, especially if you sail inland and the wind changes direction constantly. The unit itself is well made, light, easily visible and does the job perfectly. Like many people have suggested you might want something to make it float if it comes off. I used one of those cork float key rings you can get which is easily attached/detached.

Excellent apart for one flaw...
Both my kids use these on their sailing boats. They do the job really well but when the boats capsize, they tend to pop off and sink. Occasionally they wash up on shore but mostly they get lost and just add to the rubbish in the sea. After losing a few, my son dismantled the wink hawk and speared a couple of corks on the spindle and the problem is solved. Now when it pops off, it floats and can be easily retrieved. Seems like such a simple modification, shame the manufacturer didn't give it a bit of buoyancy in the first place. So... definitely a must have for dinghy sailors but get yourself a couple of corks too.

Bought as replacement
Had a few of these over the years. They perform well to determine where the wind is coming from. They fit easily on the mast of my boat and secure well.

Worth every penny.
Great product. Instantly improved my sailing by taking the guesswork out of where the wind is coming from. Once you know where the wind is, you can then start to fully appreciate how the tell tails and sail shape should be.Worth tying a small piece of line to it to ensure it doesn't get knocked off and sink to the bottom of the sea if you capsize. Also i recommend you mount it upside down. This will stop it catching on any sheets flying around on the slip or at the start line.

great product, bad packaging and bad delivery
This product is great - industry standard. Reasonable value.HOWEVER the packaging gave no protection to the product, such that when the package was rammed through my letterbox everything was bent out of shape - it was NOT "handed to resident" as the package tracking would have me believe - they didn't even try to ring the bell. I shouldn't need to un-bend it before use.
