It's great 'at that price'.
This is a great little starter set for the £10 I paid for it. I bought it to try with the family as I didn't want to spend a lot in case they didn't like it. The set gets used 3 to 4 times a week currently and chess is the favourite. To be frank, the pieces aren't exactly as detailed as the ones pictured on the box and its built from wood but the checker board is a sticker which is already showing some signs of wear. I'm pretty sure that at the current rate of use I will need to invest in a better set within a few months but as I said, for around £10 its a good beginner/ tester set to get you going and gauge interest from family and friends and I am glad I bought this one and would recommend for anyone buying a set within the same context.

Get what your paying for
No damages when I received it and all the magnets work as you would imagine. My only problems would be my Cat attacked one of the pieces and the magnet broke of one of the pawns. Still usable, which is good, but it definitely shows it's price. As well as that, it doesn't have an extra queen for both sides. If you don't mind the missing Queens and aren't going to be too rough with it, this is exactly what you are paying for.

Not great - but not bad for the price
It is most definitely not hand-made from the most beautiful natural grain hard woods. It might well be hand-made because the work is quite sloppy - the cheap softwood is not very well finished and there's quite a bit of excess glue. The playing surface is not any sort of wood. Another review says it's cardboard but I'm going to suggest that it's not even that. I'm going for paper. It's basically a photo of a wooden board, glued on. It's probably not even up to the quality of the printed photo of a board on the cardboard box the set comes in.However - All the pieces were present, the set is a playable size and for the money... well, I'm not impressed but I'm not complaining either. As a cheap introduction to these games, it's not bad.

Nice and simple chess set
Nice and simple chess set, with slightly magnetic pieces which helps keep the game tidy whilst playing (I hate it when the pieces aren't centred on their square!).My set arrived with an extra pawn and a missing queen. The seller quickly rectified this and sent me a queen in the post. It's not beautifully crafted, and it's just plastic, but it's pleasant to play with and I would recommend to anybody looking for their first chess set.
