Excellent first treble recorder
This is a very good first instrument for anyone wanting to learn treble recorder. It is not difficult to play, is in tune and has a pleasant sound. It is also a good price. If, like me, you decide later to upgrade to a more expensive treble you will still need this as a second instrument, as wooden recorders have to be 'played in' gradually and must initially only be used for a short period each day. I have very small, slightly arthritic hands and find the stretch to the bottom hole on the Aulos difficult, but achievable. The instrument is easy to hold as it is very light and comes provided with an optional thumb rest. Unlike wooden recorders, this instrument is easy to care for and is extremely robust. It seems to clog quite quickly, but this probably applies to all plastic recorders. It is worth warming it next to your body before playing to reduce condensation.

Affordable, easy to care for, tuneful.
I decided to take up the recorder again after almost 40 years, and decided on a treble - partly because a descant recorder sounds shrill when played badly, and partly for the challenge of different fingering. After some research, I found that a treble is now usually called an alto, and I found the Aulos 309 alto as recommended for an adult beginner. What do I think? Well, after a fortnight or so practicing, I am producing sounds which are reasonably musical. I did initially have problems with clogging, even when I warmed the joints thoroughly before playing - but a couple of drops of diluted washing up liquid on the labium has cured it. So I'm very happy.I'm sure a good wooden instrument might have a better tone, but I'm assured this instrument is well tuned, is much easier to care for, and is extremely affordable. It's certainly worth the money if you are wanting to see if it's a hobby you would like to pursue.

Alto recorder
I've not played a recorder since junior school and wanted to have another instrument to play. So far this seems to be a good alternative to a wooden recorder. Still in early days of relearning but so far quite happy with the Aulos Alto recorder.

A nice recorder
I bought this Aulos recorder as it seemed to have good reviews. It certainly is a nice piece of kit and has a very nice tone - when I'm not causing it to squeak !!! I certainly find it a lot harder to play than a descant - the holes are a lot bigger, so it's easy not to completely cover one and thus cause it to squeak - which it seems more than willing to do so! I was surprised at how much bigger it is than a descant, this also means that the holes are a lot further apart, which is another reason for it being more difficult than a descant - particularly if one has played a descant a lot.The hole layout is exactly the same as a descant, but for some reason (that escapes me) the same fingering on a treble is written as a completely different note on sheet music. I'm certainly not prepared to learn entirely different fingering to that of a descant - the notes of a descant are too ingrained in my mind !! Thus I have transcribed the music I need to play into the same fingering as a descant. It's very simple.Purely out of interest, I'm actually a drummer in a rock band and we are currently learning Stairway to Heaven - the recorders are used for the intro. I'll let you know how I get on :-)Oh, one last thing, when put together the recorder is in perfect tune with the rest of the band. Phew - that saves a lot of hassle!

Beautiful budget alto recorder
Aulos always produce lovely instruments, value but not cheap. I'm a beginner but this recorder has been the easiest for me to transition from an Aulos saprano recorder. Highly recommended

Weather you're playing hot crossed buns or flight of the bumble bee, this is an excellent recorder for a practicing beginner. Until this arrived yesterday, I hadn't played recorder since primary school orchestra, now I'm loving it. The fact that it's made of plastic means it's won't swell in different weather conditions, and I don't have to be afraid of the shape warping or sending when I'm carrying it around. It's in tune as well (I bought an ovarian online once which I had to abandon immediately as it was a semi tone off, AWFUL!). It comes with a leather case and a fingering chart (to show you where your hands go on the recorder). If you're worried it will sound like a school music lesson, it won't, it has a lower pitch for a start and your hands have grown since then to cover the holes properly and avoid squeaking, however shoukdnyou choose not to cover the holes properly, it can also double as an effective tortue device to housemates, relatives and partners :)

Great instrument.
I last played the recorder - a descant - over 60 years ago. I have given my piano to my granddaughters, who are having lessons and enjoying their music. However I missed having an instrument, and wondered if a treble recorder would meet this need and also provide me with a new challenge.I have had my new recorder for two weeks now, and I really love it. It has a lovely tone, and I am very pleased with it. It's an inexpensive, portable instrument that will I'm sure provide me with much pleasure for many years to come.

I've been playing soprano recorder (learning) for about a year and doing fine but the alto recorder is more difficult because the stretch on the fingers is much greater but "I'll get there". The Recorder is a beautiful instrument and will be a pleasure to play when I get the hang of it, Persistence!Seán
