YES, This!
YES, it's an external 500GB SSD for about the price of a bare (internal) m.2 drive.YES, the m.2 drive comes out to use in an m.2 NVMe slot.YES, it's a -name-brand- drive inside! (All three of mine were Samsung.)YES**, it works with an USB-A adapter. (Demands 900mA, so have a powered hub!)**Have a good one. I used (ASIN B09XR3CWPP) with the included cable and it worked "fine" in the USB 3.0 port on a 2012 Mac Mini. A Finder copy only managed ~100MB/sec. And yes, I flipped it over.

It's fast and looks nice
I purchased this item less than 2 years ago and it stopped working. To troubleshoot i used 2 addition cables and two computers. Does come up.

Worth it to me, Opinions will vary
I just needed a cheap SSD to add some storage but also allowed me to run PC games from. I've had great luck running games in the past from portable SSD's so I took a flyer on this.First the Good: Size was correct. I ran a test and was getting over 1,000 MB's a sec. read speed.Set up was easy and got using it right away. Also, my drive contained a Micron NVme SSD 500GB. Your brand WILL/MAY vary but here is a link on Amazon to the exact drive I got.https://www.amazon.com/Micron-MTFDKBK512TFK-Lenovo-Ultrabook-Surface/dp/B0B8HCHG8MThe Meh: The USB C cord is TINY. Like 4 inches maybe? See the photo. IF you need any more space be sure to buy a longer cable. If you have USB C input on your motherboard def go that way as you wont get the top speeds with say USB C to reg USB. The cord that comes with it is USB C to USB C. Also, this drive runs about 10 degrees hotter than my others but hasn't been an issue. The Possible Bad: So I have used this drive quite a but over the past few months and on like 3 or so occasions, after booting my PC it wasn't reading the drive. I had to unplug it and plug it back in and it was fine. As I said, this has happened less than 5 times over the course of over 60+ PC boot ups. Nothing has happened at all when it was in use, whether during transfer or gaming. Could be the way I have it jury-rigged and leaning or could be a wiring issue, I'm not sure. The SSD itself is at 100% health, I have checked. I will try a new cable soon either way. Just wanted to mention that but for the price/speed and quality, I still recommend this affordable drive.Just FYI for PC gamers have run Elden Ring, Stellaris, and Fallout 4 all from this drive. All ran great. Transfer speeds seem fast also though I don't time them.
