Works Great For Keeping Watercolor Fresh Too
I ordered Himi Jelly Gouache but I started back into painting after decades away and watercolor was my first choice. I haven’t made my way to gouache yet. But I easily overheat so I have to have multiple fans running on me (and my watercolor palette) constantly and it was causing my watercolor to skin over. I decided to give this a try. Of course I could use a regular water bottle, but this was inexpensive, the correct size, and I know the base ingredients don’t vary much between watercolor and gouache so I decided to give it a try. It worked great! It isn’t going to fully reconstitute dried paint, but it extended the working time of my watercolor paints and kept the consistency constant and flowing without changing the color or sheen of the paint on the paper. I just lightly spritzed it on the watercolor paints on my palette and only noticed good things. The texture was light as air, it doesn’t have a distinct odor (and I have an extremely sensitive nose) and it didn’t seem greasy/grimy/heavy/viscose. It stretches through a lot of uses. I have had numerous painting sessions and the bottle isn’t even half gone.I took pictures and didn’t notice until editing that the cap was askew. That isn’t a defect, it just didn’t get pushed down all of the way apparently. The bottle seems well made and durable as I have dropped it too many times to count!I will come back and review how the product works with the Himi Jelly Gouache, the product it was formulated to work with, once I get a chance to explore their gouache and see how it works. The pictures in the product description seem to speak for themselves - I was wondering how those tubs of jelly were going to handle being open and this looks like a great solution!

Like magic
This stuff is like magic. My paints kept molding after just a few days, but now I can leave them for weeks and they don't mold or dry out.

I got the big bottle
I have had a Himi gouache 24 palette since March that I opened up after a couple months of not using and it had a rank mildew smell. I freaked out because I wanted to rescue my paints, so I went on a mission and did tons of research, and saw people using clove oil and rubbing alcohol to get rid of/prevent mildew. I figured I should play it safe and go for the thing that was actually made for the paint and went ahead and got the bigger bottle because there wasn't much of a price difference at the time, and I just bought a new 56 palette of a different brand of jelly gouache, so I figured it would be better to get the larger bottle. I haven't had it long enough to see if it performs better than anything else would, because I haven't tried mixing anything else other than water into my paints until yesterday. I bought this because I was really curious about the ingredients. I wish there was an ingredient list in English on the package but there isn't, so I can't read it. I CAN however testify to the fact that it smells really strongly of bleach. If you have ever smelled the bleach mildew spray for bathrooms, the smell reminds me of that. I am curious as to how this doesn't ruin the paint if it does contain bleach. (Surely it can't be, right??) I really wish I knew what was in it to see if it might be something I can mix for myself when I run out of the spray, but no way am I gonna try spraying bleach into my paints. 🤣 going by the smell alone, whatever is in there will definitely kill the mildew, that's for sure. If anyone can translate the characters (if the ingredients are on it) and maybe can answer in a review or something, it would help so much, because I am stumped. Hope this is helpful. 🙂
