Q: How do the hold to the shower door

It's perfect fit and working fine so far no issues.

Q: can it be cut down? i need 1 3/4" long but can't find that anywhere.

Most magnets can be cut if they are not too thick. I did not have to cut mine but it wasn’t a sting enough magnet. Had to augment with another magnet and works well now.

Q: could this be used to keep one of the sliding shower doors closed? If they are not completely closed, water leaks out on to the floof

I have a swing out door. So it may not apply to your situation, but the magnet keeps my door shut well.
