Hi. I'm not sure but I think it's a hook to hang your clock from the mechanism. I didn't use it because my clock hangs from a built-in hook high up at the back of the clock. Contact Dan's Clocks if that doesn't answer your question. They're very helpful. Cheers.

Q: Hi. i am after this exact same item (20mm), but have minute hands of 350mm. the clock sits horizontal, so wondering if i need a high torque model. tx.

The minute hand on my clock are only 85mm and the largest set I have on any clock are 110mm. Note: I put the old battery in first and clock started loosing time and then stalled because it could not lift the minute hand above the 35 to 40 minute marks, but that was a battery problem. A new battery fixed that problem immediately. The normal torque and the high torque models appear to be of similar price. If you buy the normal one (but it is under-powered) and they are willing to replace it you will have pay return postage. If they will not replace it you will end up buying two clock motors. So, in that case, go for the high torque version. If there was a big price difference you might take a gamble. It has to be your decision.

Q: Where can I buy the hands for this mechanism?

As far as I know, Amazon sell clock hands. It seems that all quartz mechanisms in general use have shafts that fit the hands you can buy, so have a look on the Amazon site, or any others on line. Hope you are successful, best wishes JC
