Gofanco Mini DisplayPort to Dual HDMI MST Hub - mDP 1.2 to 2-Port Multi Stream Transport Splitter for Windows PCs, Not Mac OS Compatible (mDPMST2HDMI)

This is the second one I've purchased and I'm very happy with them. Excellent packaging. Easy setup. Worked perfectly immediately after installation.

This thing did exactly what I wanted it to do: allow me use two to three screens (including the laptop screen itself) on my Surface Pro 2. Installation was simple (assuming your Mini DisplayPort on your computer supports DisplayPort 1.2):1. Plug the Mini DisplayPort connector to your computer2. Plug two HDMI cables into the gofanco unit3. Plug the other ends of the HDMI cables into your monitors4. Plug the power cord into the gofanco unit and your USB port4. On Windows, right click your desktop and configure your Display Settings (you can set it to two or three screens)A terrific value at $40 when I take into account my increased productivity.

I had 2 displays running 1920x1080@60hz connected to this device. It worked but I kept getting static over the picture. I was able to resolve this by adding a custom display setting of 1920x1080@62hz. Now it's perfect. :)

I was looking for a solution to my dual screen + Surface setup and this showed up after doing intense research. I followed the instructions, turned off the screens and the pc, plugged it, turned it back on and it was working perfectly. It took me some time to set everything up (software wise) cause the adapter does not know which screen is which so you need to sit down and set it up in your Settings. The device feels good and of very high quality in your hand, the fact that it needs extra USB power makes sense for the fact that you can extend your desktops and not just duplicated it. It is not bulky and I am using it with a USB Hub plugged to my Surface and it works great, I did experience what some people called a "flickering" of the screens, but only when I resume the computer from sleep, when I turn it on from scratch it does not flicker at all or when I am using it.

I've had this product for 4 months now and did not like it when I first received but was kind of in a bind to use immediately. First of all the mini display port cable does not work with the docking station for my Surface Pro 2. Sure it fits into the port, but my entire system will freeze up. The work around is to plug both the mini display and the USB into the Surface Pro 2 ports however over the course of this short period, the quality of the product is such that my screens will go black and when they reappear, the windows I had up revert to my Surface Pro 2 screen where I have to then drag them back to the bigger screens. If this were to happen once or twice I might be able to justify it with a loose connector but I have ensured all the fitting are properly seated. I do not recommend this product and will be reaching out to the vendor for resolution.

I as excited to find a splitter reasonable priced, however everyday i have been having so many issues. I have to keep adjusting the connector piece cable for it to display onto my two screens. sometimes i just deal with it and only have one screen display instead of two. very dissapointed with the product.

Edit 2: The Product is a Great Value - and goFanco Customer Service is Great - the product just doesn't seem to work great for the Surface family. Updating to 3 Star due to reliability, durability, and compatibility. The second unit started to behave the like the first after about 4 months. The long flicker returned and became more frequent and eventually settling in at 2-3 times a day. I decided I could live with it but I eventually swapped out the Surface Studio to run without extra monitors and decided to give the unit a try on a Surface Book 2 using the Surface dock. My original intention was to see if I could go to 3 monitors since the Dock has 2 mDP ports. As some of the other reviewers found, it does not work reliably with a Surface Dock. It would only recognize 2 monitors at any given time during my experiments with the 3 monitor setup. Understanding that this use case probably wasn't considered in the design, I'm not dinging the product for this. What brought me to update the review was the unit got progressively worse just using it in 2 monitor configuration. I settled on using one mDP port off the dock and splitting the signal to two monitors like I had it on the Surface Studio. But it started to long flicker like the first unit but at a frequency of 4-5 times per hour. I decided to try using both mDP ports on the Dock effectively using the hub as an mDP to HDMI adapter. But the monitor connected to the hub still flickered to the point of being too irritating and I eventually switched to mDP to HDMI cables and stopped using the unit. I'll hook this up to the native mDP on a Surface Pro 2 to test if this unit is also going bad but if you're considering buying this unit for a Surface - It may or may not work on a Surface Studio and if it does, it won't last. It won't work on a Surface Book since you have to use the Dock and my experience is it does not work reliably with the dock. The one way it says it can be used, on the native mDP of a Surface Pro, might be the only practical way to use the device with the Surface family since this is far cheaper than the Dock. Unfortunately for me, the Surface Pro is the one Surface I own I wouldn't use in a multi-monitor set up. Besides that, I don't see any other practical way to use the product with the Surface. Now I have to see if the unit I have is going bad again.Edit 1: After struggling with this for two months, I reached back out to support with detailed explanation of everything that was tried to get rid of the flicker, and was offered a replacement unit. Keeping in mind I had already gone outside the Amazon return window, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly and easily the unit was replaced. I was able to take a couple weeks testing, keeping it touch with seller, to check that the issues weren't a compatibility issue. I can now report this hub works just fine with the Surface Studio. There is still a flicker, but it's frequency can be counted in days and not minutes. It appears the unit I had was defective; I'm changing this review to 5-Star, because the unit works the way it's supposed to and the service provided by this seller is exceptional.Original Review (2-Star)Contacted support regarding setting adjustments I could make for use on a Surface Studio and was told it had not been tested on my particular machine and was offered no other advice beyond that. My issue is it works…sort of; I attached two monitors in extended desktop mode and the attached monitors will long flicker randomly. Sometimes together, sometimes one at a time. And on occasion, one monitor (and always the same monitor) will go to a white video static. I’ve tried different monitors, tried different cables, and tried using HDMI, HDMI to DVI, and HDMI to DVI with a VGA adaptor. I've tried various setting adjustments with Nvidia control panel but nothing seems to help with the problem. The only theory I could come up with is that it has to do with the screen refresh from the hub to the monitors as certain applications are run. I’m basing that on the fact that when I allow the screens saver to kick in, the screens never flicker while the screen saver is running. I have monitors that max out at 60Hz refresh rates so I can’t test if going higher helps. I don’t have problems with the monitors losing its order or “position” or not connecting on start. If the flicker could be corrected this would be a 5 star review.
