The Great Escape - Bye Bye Virgin Media
I have finally escaped subscription TV with the purchase of this Manhattan T4-R 1TB set top freeview box. And it feels good! So I bought an aerial and fixed it up in the loft as i'm not good with heights. I doubted whether I would get as good a picture as I did on my Virgin Tivo box but I needn't have worried. Great HD picture quality on the main channels, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Ch4 & Ch5 plus BBC3 and BBC4 and some kids channels all available in HD with good sound quality also. I tend to like watching some of the older programmes on ITV3 and ITV4 which aren't in HD unfortunately but then I discovered that I can watch all those on BBCi player and ITV X in better quality - not HD but those programmes were not recorded in HD to start with.I find the T4-R 1TB box to be easy to use even though it's different obviously to my old Tivo box which I'd had for 7 years so sort of got used to using that. It's not rocket science though and there's full instructions on all the different functions. The only negative with the box itself is it takes about 35 seconds to start up but I can live with that. I can record 2 programmes whilst watching another channel which is good. I can record a series and set reminders etc.. Basically, this box can do everything that the Tivo box could. The Tivo could record up to 6 channels at once but that's totally pointless if there's nothing worth watching on subscription channels which is why I ditched Virgin TV in the first place. If like me, you find yourself mainly watching the main TV channels and maybe having Netflix and Amazon on the side, this Manhattan T4-R 1TB TV recorder is the perfect alternative and will pay for itself in no time compared to subscription services that just broadcast repeat after repeat. I highly recommend this product.

Better than my Humax? Yes.
I’ve had this a month now, and I took a long time deciding whether to get this or a Humax as I’ve had 2 Humax’ before. This is as good as people are saying. It’s small, it’s mighty, it has a stunning picture quality, and its user interface is easy.Older comments had mentioned that with the box in standby it was not possible to watch TV with the through aerial, but that issue has been fixed now.I’m very happy. So will you.

Upgrade from T3-R
I had the T3-R from almost the day it was released. It was a change from the Humax which had the option to record 4 program at the same time, but became so buggy I couldn't trust it. The T3-R NEVER let me down and received updates. So why did I upgrade to the T4-R? 4k, more ram, updated guides.Positives: Upgrade of remote. The old one was good but large. The new one is around a 3rd smaller. Sadly I have been using the old one for so long it's going to take sometime to retrain my muscle memory 😅 Picture from both live and recording are a step up. Same small footprint. New one has done away with the shiny top the collected dust and fingerprints for fun! Same super fast setup and a firmware update waiting as soon as I connected to my hub.Negative: With a faster processor and more ram I hoped the startup would have been faster, it's not. So it must be tied the speed of the hard drive they use. All in all very happy with it. Is there enough to make the jump if you have a T3-R at the moment no. Going forward with updates maybe.

Better than Sky Q!!!
Absolutely overjoyed with purchase. So easy to set up, works better than SKY Q and at last have been able to save £40 per month in subscriptions whilst being able to enjoy all and more facilities with this quality box.

Would give 4.5 stars if I could
Loving the T4-R, so far it's doing exactly what I wanted.Pause, rewind, fast forward, live TV anything up to 2 hours history right up to now. Eat your heart out freely, with your mere 15 minute pause and play only...Recording and scheduled recording has worked flawlessly so far, giving much more responsive and hassle free playback than ANY Internet catch up app.Very decent 1080p picture too on our FullHD 600Hz plasma TV, presumably would be even better if we upgraded to a good 4k OLED TV.The Bluetooth remote is great too, only needing line of sight to the TV if using TV features (volume, source, standby) by is learning IR feature. No problem aiming, no lags, massively responsive compared to Humax, Huawei boxes I've used before. Much lower power consumption too.Overall this feels like great value for money, likely to get the best out of Freeview DVB-T2 fur the next decade, regardless what TV it's hooked up to.The missing star, should maybe be half a star, is because of a frustrating power on protocol. But the remote power button just ONCE. Unit starts to wake but no visible signs of life until about 2 seconds later. Be patient. Next, the unit doesn't bother waking the TV (by HDMI CEC) until it's been booting for more than a dozen seconds. Finally, the TV displays something, best part of 15 seconds after you'd hit the button. If you're patient, and if you press, then wait, no issue, but in the absence of responses many folk will hit the button again and it may power down before anything appeared. This is frustrating, but Manhattan have engaged over the issue and may look to improve it. It isn't a killer flaw, and all the other positives outweigh it for me

Great for price.
So far so good. Been trying to get something to replace my old recorder. Having returned a cheaper one recently this was easy to set up and quality of picture great. You certainly get what you pay for.
