The Proper Truss Belt
Of course you've read that inguinal hernias require surgery. Why, well no good explanation so I pushed on alone in my quest to heal myself. I have continued my normal lifestyle, lifting weights although a bit lighter, hiking, cycling and motorcycle riding. I work in the yard trimming trees and pushing a wheelbarrow around.First off, this is the 3rd brand of belt purchased. The first was to wide and the pad was not designed properly (really bad and made matters worse). The 2nd belt bought months later was a big leap forward but the (new and Improved) Velcro kept coming loose. Then you must pull your pants down and re-attach the end(s). Both those designs allowed a slight bulge under those soft pads while the pads were tightly fitted and in place. Well in my option, if a bulge is allowed then it's not going to heal. I wasted 6 months on a learning curve.I purchased this belt and it has allowed a lot of healing to occur. The pad is really well designed, firm and low profile so it's not noticeable. This belt is user fitment according to you waist and groin requirements then you step into the belt. It's a lot easier and faster and gives a more consistent redaction result. So after getting the redaction under control so no bulges, it was time to focus on any special nutritional needs. Guess what the 1 thing I wasn't taking... collagen (I'm 69 years old). Research that and you'll find nothing gets repaired without collagen. Something like 40% of the protein in your body is collagen of 1 type or another. Bought mind on Amazon, starting taking 30-40 grams a day (some of that is gelatin, not Jello). Improvement, YES, no more bulging when I cough, laugh, fart, pee or stretch but this is after 3 months of collagen. I cycle 16 miles up a canyon with my belt on without a bulge. Used to bulge under the pad with the other 2 belts.Presently, my hernia is not healed completely but it has improved greatly. I can go half a day without a bulge and without wearing a belt. It's going to be a few more months, hernias take a long time to heal but I'm confident now after 9 months it will heal. To bad so little information is available online. I wasted a lot of time figuring this out, hope it is of benefit to others.

Nearly perfect - but useless if groin strap cannot be secured!
When I first put it on, it was beyond perfect - held back whatever pushes through the breach whether I walked, bent …brilliant. Then the groin strap slipped off and dangled beneath my shorts. Now the groin strap pulls the pad holding the hernia closed. Without that pressure - it does nothing.Seems the strap depends on Velcro - as does the waist - but needs waist strap to be worn around belly button height otherwise it is far to long and Velcro dangles free above the waist strap.Am trying to figure out a way of shortening the strap.I tried wearing waist band higher, but caused me discomfort - so I wore it just below my usual trouser belt line - can hardly feel it.if anyone has a suggestion of how to shorten the groin strap without ridges of knots … All I can think of is to cut the Velcro attachment stitching, cut off a foot of strap and stitch back the Velcro.

Bulging pads are not good for a hernia and then there's the other thing.
As soon as I unrolled this hernia support I knew it was going to be a problem. The pad that goes over the hernia is WAY too fat. It bulges out and is not just uncomfortable to wear but is dangerous because it pushes in against the weak tissue around the place where the soft tissue of the intestine is pushing out. And that can easily make the hernia worse. What I wanted was a nice soft, but firm, flat pad to keep the intestine from peeking out but would not stress the tissues around the hernia. And then there's the other thing. For some strange reason they put the break in the belt so the velcro is right smack in the middle of the back. It's kind of a yoga exercise to get it adjusted and placed exactly right with both hands behind your back. Actually, after ordering this support my wonderful wife made one and the one she made has a flat fuzzy pad and the velcro belt fastens in the front of the right hip. Easy to put on, comfortable, and it works a treat. When the ORTONYX Inguinal Groin Hernia Truss Support Belt - Left Beige arrived from Amazon I was really disappointed. My wife is going to remove the bulging pad and replace it with a nice flat one for me. And I'll just have to get her to adjust it just right and fasten it for me. Then I can remove it and keep the belt fastened in that spot.

Hernia Truss
Not all Inguinial hernias are the same, so not all trusses work the way you want. My husbands hernia had to be surgically removed.

This truss changed my life!
Don't be fooled by the price. Unfortunately, I bought two other (more expensive) trusses before this one. Mistakenly, I thought that this one didn't look supportive enough. Quite the contrary! IF you have an inguinal hernia where I do, this will do the trick.First, it has a firm "support pad" that really targets the "hole" in my fascia.Second, it stays in place no matter what my activity.Third, it isn't unnecessarily bulky like every other truss I have seen. The belt and support strap don't bother me at all. The other trusses have large wide belts and large "fluffy" pads. For me, these just were uncomfortable and hot AND they didn't seem to target the exact spot where my hernia was. This one feels like it was designed by someone who actually had a hernia! My only disclaimer is, if your hernia isn't exactly where mine is, very near the crotch, this may be a bad choice. I guess the spot is pretty common because my doctor knew exactly where to touch when he gave me the exam. So in my case this truss is a life changer. My hernia NEVER comes out because I wear this all the time when I'm not sleeping. I'm back to working out without even thinking about my hernia. Two days after I bought this, I bought a second for "back-up". I'll probably buy a third soon, because without this truss living with my hernia was a real difficulty.
