Great Replacement For a Hunter Fan that slowed dow
I have a bunch of 20-year-old Hunter Fans (23481-380) that still look good but one of them lost the high speed. Medium and high seemed to be about the same and there didn't seem to be much of a difference between Low Speed and Medium Speed when it was on.Sadly, even though these fans look just like a current Hunter Model the internal parts have been discontinued. Hunter sells a half dozen different wiring harness that look a lot like this one, but they don't offer a cross reference and the 800 number wasn't any help... "Nope, your wiring harness has been discontinued" and that was the end of their assistance.I initially thought that the 4-wire capacitor had failed. I could have tested it, but it was less than $10 so I just replaced it. When that didn't fix my problem, I looked at the start capacitor. At first it looked fine but then I noticed on the back that there were some raised veins where you could see that it had overheated. I have included photos so you could see what I mean. Hunter originally installed a 250v capacitor and it did last about 20 years but a 450v capacitor will handle heat a bit better, so I went with this one.Neither the OEM Capacitor or the replacement had a polarity listed and based on my research these capacitors are non-polarized, so this was basically splice and play. There is one caveat that I didn't think of initially. The 450v capacitor is physically larger than the original by about 20%. It still fit fine inside of the Hunter Fan housing in mine so just keep that in mind.

The right part, the right price.
I had purchased three Hunter™ fans five years ago during a house remodel. One fan failed and when I contacted Hunter™ for a replacement motor, I was told that there were no longer any spare/repair parts for that model. Then they offered a 30% discount off of a new fan. Big whoop! I seemed the only fans that were 'in stock' were in the four hundred dollar range and up. The fan that failed was around three hundred. Due dilligence resulted in my trying to affect a repair on my own and after a test with a multimeter, this was what I ordered. The fan is fixed, running properly and I have a spare for when another goes out.

There is no product picture or spec showing a mounting lug & dimensions are wrong.
These capacitors have an integral mounting lug on one side of the bottom. There are two capacitors in my Hunter fan that mount side-by-side with double stick foam tape. The lug in this two-wire capacitor will make mounting much more difficult. I did not order a similar product because the vendors for them were honest enough to show the mounting lugs. In addition, the size listed is wrong in EVERY dimension. This capacitor is MUCH larger than advertised. It may not even fit. May be wasted expense. Very disappointed!!

Measure the capacitance before use.
So I had ordered the 4.5UF capacitors and they measured low. I decided to order the 5 UF capacitors thinking they may closer. Well these measured 5.6 UF, not within the 5% tolerance again. Definitely measure them before use if you need an accurate capacitor.
